Ears Against Doomscrollia – 2023
So then, ‘A Year in Ear: A 2023 List’. Hello, it’s been a while hasn’t it? Today with a dual focus on both expedition and also the intention not to facilitate you pissing away too much of your precious time, I’m casting some words into the infinite warrens of Doomscollia with some musings on what I have enjoyed musically this year.
Despite, admittedly and shamefully I suppose, being somewhat removed from the loop comparatively speaking this past annum, I have still consumed some audible excellence from (mostly) the independent and DIY music scenes. Obligatory ..read more

Zombies No – Paris, France
Zombies No and The Big Reset have begun the initial part of their combined, tempo-dependant trajectory into the contemporary fast Punk scene. The Paris-based but in reality, Punk-Rock band from everywhere are no strangers to the tenacity of said scene, be it through their era-spanning Skate Punk, penchant for Thrash or observational lyrical narrative. Eleven years as band have yielded two full-length albums and two EPs, with the most recent EP debuting the voice box of one Claudio Balest. The band’s back catalogue will be linked below but for now, Zombies No and The ..read more

The Expanse Of The Internet
The “May Have Missed Special: Melodic Fast Punk Volume 2” is the order of the day. If you don’t know, the “May Have Missed” series is a (now) long list of volumes covering a variety of releases from across the Punk and Alternative scene that, through sheer volume within and outside of my cavernous inbox, I, you and other music devotees “may have missed” as we navigate our increasingly busy, distracted lives. Though it is impossible to cover everything that is thrown my way or exists in the greater, ever-growing music scene in these coveted and precious spare moment ..read more

Ritual Error – London, England, United Kingdom
Another short-ish one today throwing light on a band whose clout far dwarfs this word count, introducing Ritual Error is the name of the game. London-based but tributing a far-flung sound (and movement) that changed everything, as much as they are refreshing it, the four-piece push a frantic, frenetic and impassioned “Revolution Summer” Post-Hardcore Punk-Rock craft into a UK scene waving goodbye to the previous years’ troubles.
Consider the time-honoured names of Dischord Records, Fugazi, and Embrace. Bolster such with the likes of Rites Of Spri ..read more

Feign – Manchester, England, United Kingdom
The contemporary Hardcore umbrella is one pairing diversity and rage in growing measure and that is where introducing Feign enters the fray via their contorted expression. Based in Manchester and shying away from the more expansive personnel rosters, the band cut their way into 2022 with a three-prong affront ticking more than one aggravated metric with a fluidic take on modern Hardcore.
The band’s demos from the aforementioned ’22, ‘Null’ (June) and ‘It’s A Joke’ (December), present a scathing slew of Metallic Hardcore Punk. To date, Feign ha ..read more

The Expanse Of The Internet
“May Have Missed Volume 21”. You know how this goes by now. The following slew of audio-focused, literary musings has been (predominantly) sourced from my cavernous part-time inboxes. EN, when it boils down to its plant-based barebones, is a spare-time hobby. I try to do what I can outside of my daily grind but as with all personal ventures, the hegemonic construct known as “time” ubiquitously conditions every sub-constructed layer.
The purpose of this series is to provide some varied new noise as an enticement to indulge in the plethora that is the underground mus ..read more

Dischord – Blackpool, England, (Dis)United Kingdom
Ahead of time and raging, the album premiere of Dischord and Cotton Famine Road is here. The Blackpool four have been biding their time in focused observation these past years, drawing parallel perspectives from the past and carefully culminating and articulating their response. Today, you can hear the finished product present and waiting, ready to be unveiled as a collection of these poignant musings, soundtracked of course, by the latest nuance of their aggravated and writhing Punk underbelly.
Cotton Famine Road tells a tale as much as ..read more

Something Bitter – New York City, New York, USA
Today’s essential audio-nutrient derives from the single premiere of Something Bitter and ‘The Black Mill’. Purveying ‘positively nihilistic fun-punk’ out of NYC, Something Bitter debuted into the latter part of 2022 with an EP I implore you to play catch up with, repeatedly. Cut with gruff, time-resistant melodic Punk-Rock filtered through the seminal legacy Post-Hardcore, the four-piece dynamically employ regular tempo changes powered by darts of jagged late ’90s Skate Punk. They finish this inviting bitterness with soulful vocals, cathar ..read more

Hell Can Wait – Brighton, England, United Kingdom
Introducing Hell Can Wait is the order of the day. Though relatively new to the scene, the Brighton-based band have thus far hewed an evocatively resolute path through the current catalytic wave of Hardcore. Within this current revivalist wave, Hell Can Wait present as a key part aspect of this ever-strengthening bulwark of expression, championing the melodic wing of the Hardcore scene that despite melodious delivery, equates the clout of its heavier counterparts.
LOVE.LOSS.HOPE.FEAR EP splintered any prospective doubt on the band’s ability in ..read more

The Expanse Of The Internet
“May Have Missed Volume 19” is an attempt to counter the volume of requests I receive in the various Ear Nutrition inboxes as I type away. The venture of EN, when it boils down to its barebones of itself, is a spare-time hobby. I try to do what I can, as there is only so much I can electro-scribble down on a screen. Some don’t fit and others are simply irrelevant to the site but overall, if they pique my interest or “fit” the site and whatever trend it’s pursuing at that time, they get featured. I obviously don’t have the time to cover everything and even though I ..read more
