Italian rock/post-hardcore band Feldspar are preparing to release their debut album later this year via TTK Records. To get us pumped, here’s the single and video for “Cobblestones.”
The track is also the debut of their collaboration with Nick Terry, the London-based producer who worked on their full-length album. It showcases that post-hardcore is alive and well with their layered approach to the genre that is both introspective and heavy in its own way.
The band’s press release explains:
“The forthcoming ‘Cobblestones’ video is a project within the project directed by well-known Italian ..read more

Shotmaker’s moment in time and place was pretty specific: mid-’90s, hardcore, Ontario, Canada. But the funny thing is it didn’t stop after a couple albums and the usual slew of shorter releases. They lived on in my head, in the head of anyone who heard them back then, anyone who saw them play, anyone who spent more than a fleeting moment with their chaotic, emotion-filled post-hardcore. Their sound flirted with noise rock, second-wave emo, and hardcore; it was a unique sound, one that deserves to be remembered.
Luckily, their music has seen a new lease on life with Solid Brass Records’ extensi ..read more

Norwegian noise rock duo Barren Womb toe a fine line between tuneful and terse on their brand new single, “Squat Walker,” that we’re premiering here today. The track is the first to be released from the band’s upcoming fifth full-length, Chemical Tardigrade, which is set for release in February 2024. What may be the most interesting part of that last sentence is the word “tardigrade,” which we had to look up. And, honestly, we regret doing that, because tardigrades—also known as “moss piglets” or “water bears”—are kind of creepy. But back to “Squat Walker,” which sounds both slightly unhi ..read more

Though the moniker might suggest it, this isn’t a Dave Witte solo project. The ultra-talented in-demand drummer isn’t even a member of Ex Everything, though this noisy post-hardcore quartet does include current and former members of Kowloon Walled City, Early Graves, Mercy Ties, Blowupnihilist, Less Art, and other notable outfits. Today we’re offering up the short, but punchy (and mathy) new single, “Detonation in the Public Sphere” from Ex Everything’s upcoming debut full-length, Slow Change Will Pull Us Apart. The new single is offered up in fast-cut performance video form, with th ..read more

Ok, last week we learned about “irony,” so how about we tackle “sarcasm” this week, courtesy of Norwegian post-hardcore progniks Kambodsja. The Refused-inspired quartet offer a perfect example in their latest track, “Basement Prophet,” whose video we’re premiering below. Ya see, the chorus in this particular adrenalin-fueled basher is, “we could all use a little bit more hate,” and since we don’t see any upside down crosses, pig blood or frowny corpse painted faces in the video, we can only assume that Kambodsja mean the opposite and are being, you guessed it, sarcastic. Because, realisti ..read more

And today we learn about the meaning of irony courtesy of Belgian ear-scrapers Youff, who offer up a new song and video called “Sunshine” that are pretty much bereft of both. But, hey, in lieu of anything “sunny” you get an absolute earful of pounding noise rock with squalling guitars, a stuttering rhythm section and distortion-laden shouting from five dudes—Manu Mahie (drums), Arjen Verswijvelt (guitar), Victor Goemaere (guitar), Filip Brans (bass), Michiel De Naegel (vocals)—on a sonic mission to annihilate.
“Sunshine” is the latest track to emerge from Youff’s upcoming full-length,&nb ..read more

Post-hardcore suffered an incredible loss with the passing of Pitchfork/Drive Like Jehu/Hot Snakes shaman Rick Froberg, but the scene is arguably stronger than ever.
Exhibit A is Strangelight. The Bay Area quartet, featuring members of Kowloon Walled City and Transistor Transistor, only need two minutes to flex their angular, brash, feverish skronk with “Power, Rent, Control,” one of two tracks that Rome-plow right over you on the upcoming 7-inch Power, Rent, Control b/w A Three Day Weekend.
Here is guitarist/vocalist Nat Coghlin laying out the details:
Our original plan was to record these tw ..read more
