Half of the mighty CAVE IN, Adam McGrath & Stephen Brodsky, played an intimate acoustic set to about 75 people, hosted by infamous rock’n’roll brewery Bone Up. While tuning, Stephen informed us that the date that night had a bit more significance than just being the date of this performance, it was also Caleb Scofield‘s birthday – he would have been 45 years old.
Artwork by Adam Cutler, MotionlessVisions.com.
The duo’s set consisted of new and old CAVE IN songs, some written by Caleb, and a cover of Failure‘s “Magnified,” which may be familiar if you picked up their Creative Ecl ..read more

Post-hardcore outfit ACTOR OBSERVER recently released their new album, Songs For The Newly Reclusive, an emotional, vulnerable, and sincere offering. A powerful album that covers social topics including toxic masculinity and the gentrification of local art and music communities.
Though ACTOR OBSERVER was formed in a backwoods barn in the small town of Newfields, New Hampshire, where they recorded their initial four-track demo. The band has performed all throughout their home turf of Boston, Massachusetts, snowy days in Maine, in fields of rural Connecticut, and intimate establishments in ..read more

LESS ART is the alliance of brothers Riley and Ed Breckenridge of Thrice, Ian Miller and Jon Howell of Kowloon Walled City, and Mike Minnick of Curl Up and Die. On Strangled Light, these five veterans bash out their own new version of post-hardcore – “post-hardcore by post-youths” is how they cheekily describe themselves, but this music is dead serious. The musicianship is world-class; the perspective is world-weary; the sound is fresh and urgent and crackling with feeling.
Strangled Light‘s nine songs add up to a modern, muscular incarnation ..read more

The Future of Death, the second album by Primitive Weapons, is now available on Party Smasher Inc., the new label founded by Ben Weinman of The Dillinger Escape Plan.
PRIMITIVE WEAPONS‘ mix of teeth-gnashing aggression and grand, haunting melodies sets the band in line with post-hardcore greats like Refused and Quicksand – guitarist Arthur Shepherd was a member of that scene as a younger man in the ’90s, playing in bands like Mind Over Matter, Errortype:11, World’s Fastest Car (with Quicksand’s Walter Schreifels) and Instruction (with Quicksand’s Tom Capone).
