We’ve been here before with Seattle’s Beach Vacation and we were relieved to hear that they’ve stuck to the template that has served them so well to date. Namely a fast drift of jangle and vocal cooing that soars and swoops endlessly like the best dreampop concoction you could come up in your head. ‘Unique Routine’ throws a veil of nice melodies over all within earshot and together we can pleasantly lock out the world for under 3 minutes. Oh the jangle of it all, the clearest invocation of the chiming kind too so we were drawn to ‘Anyway’ like a bee to pollen. No sting to what Nashville’s Sundaes offer either, a barely breaking through vocal adding to the levity of a piece that might just be the post-ambient breakthrough that the world was looking for. There’s so much sparkle here it is bound to leave all who come into contact with it in a state of fragrant wooze. A perfect candidate for the days when shimmering escapism is called for. KH

With that amount of jangle (‘Coming Around’ by Travis levels) we were always going to be front row and center taking in what Canada’s the Sylvia Platters have conceived on ‘Kool Aid Blue’. The very big bonus is that they’ve packed plenty of Teenage Fanclub harmonies into the sweet pie to make for a track that could have come from the deepest 90’s and as a result we love every inch of its being. Slacker as can be with the spirit of the Byrds strong on this one and it goes without saying that in the year of 2024 we feel like we’ve found true happiness on record. Seconds in and we knew we had the minimum that you’d expect of a Peli Gene track and that was jangling chords but like we also know there will also be plenty of other attractions and on ‘Slow Mind’ they come thick and fast. That is down to the beautiful union of playing and a singer, Gabe Parker, who gets stuck right in the heart of the mix. There were trace Lotus Eaters ‘First Picture of You’ happening here but much of the joy within is all of Peli Gene’s own making – always striving for better no matter what slings and arrows come his way. An absolute stunner of a track. KH mp3hugger’s bes ..read more

There is a lot to be said for that kind of gtwinking opening, not least it shows a character to have your guitars singing so sweetly we didn’t necessarily need a singer to do it. But Indonesia four-piece Vacant Days appear to be, on this debut single, the kind of act who have everything that an indie fan could need. Not least a swell of noise that fills the space all around with an industrious but always chiming frequency and the hummed like words that never detract from the unstoppable momentum. I was back in the 90’s, my favourite time for music so owe a debt of gratitude to Vacant Days. KH ..read more

Now if I hadn’t have spotted name I wouldn’t have guessed early on that this was Pale Puma but before the half minute was out their 90’s dreampop machinations became obvious and in the process they most reminded me of Irish act Brian and in particular their ‘Understand’ (as well as ‘Pearl’ by Chapterhouse). ‘LMFG’ is much better produced mind you, you can feel the pulsation and you can taste the feeling in those harmonies that get me everytime. Yes there will be twee pop tears shed to this track and for that and probably a dozen other reasons we are again kneeling at the altar of his special ..read more

There’s a band from the deepest 90’s called Chapterhouse who I was reminded of here , on ‘Cemetery’, Field Mice and Lightning Seeds too it must be said. Namely a preponderance for jangling chords and fey boy vocals that come together to create a slipstream of fragrant ambience that is twee to a degree but also clever in that all the moving parts add up to a meaningful whole. A smashing debut, one that really chimed with old indie headed me. KH mp3hugger’s best new music in 2022 playlist! More Info: Official Hear More Songs: Plumface Year: 2022 ..read more
