Despite a humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza, the Biden Administration has cut off funding for UNRWA, the primary organization carrying out relief inside Gaza. A Congressional letter, coordinated by Representatives Raskin, Carson and Jayapal, encourages Congressional appropriators to support continued funding for UNRWA, given its essential role in providing humanitarian aid to Gaza and to Palestinian refugees across the region. The Biden Administration’s request for $105.85 billion, (Supplemental Measure) which includes $61 billion of military aid for Ukraine, $14 billion for Israel, as well as military aid to Taiwan, and some humanitarian assistance has been tied up for weeks in partisan bickering. Republicans are hesitant to provide funds for Ukraine and are insisting on including harsh immigration restriction measures.
