This year the first Saturday in May, May 4th, will mark the 150th running of the Kentucky Derby. It's a grade one stakes race for three-year-old thoroughbreds. And the distance is one in a quarter mile. It's run at Churchill Downs in Louisville. It's known as the Run for the Roses, stemming from the blanket of roses draped over the winner.
