Douglas John Baumgartner, 81, died peacefully on April 28, 2024, in his home, in Jackson. Doug was born on June 16, 1942, in Waterloo, Iowa. He was the oldest of four children born to Irene and Neal Baumgartner. Doug earned his bachelor’s degree in Fishery Biology from Iowa State University. Doug worked in Fish and Wildlife Management for 30 years. Locally, he worked as the manager and wildlife officer at Choctaw National Wildlife Refuge. Jason Sullivan received his diploma from McIntosh High School at the age of 41 on Monday under a program designed to help former students who either didn’t pass their graduation exam or build up enough credits to graduate. Sullivan, who dropped out of McIntosh High in 2000, received his diploma from Washington County Public Schools Superintendent Lisa Connell during the school board’s meeting at the Washington County High auditorium. Body found after seven-day search

Authorities found the body of a missing Conecuh County man Sunday morning near the Alabama River bridge at Claiborne, according to the Monroe County Sheriff ’s Office. The body of John Derek Faulkner, who had been reported missing, was found around 9:30 a.m. following a seven-day search, according to the MCSO. The first-place winner in the Farm-City Poster Contest, sponsored by the Clarke County Farmers Federation, is Adalee Carmichael and second-place winner is Mary Alice Brewer. Both of these students are from Jackson Academy.
