It’s All in Your Names

Since we now have an idea of how to start to word your wedding invitation, which depends on who is hosting or paying for the event, let’s discuss the writing of the bride and groom’s names on it. The old established rules for displaying the happy couples’ names have relaxed tremendously. If you peeked into a stationery etiquette book back in the “old days”, it would tell you that both the bride and grooms’ names should be spelled out completely, i.e. Regina Patrice Billingsham and Horace Walter Partridgerton, III! But, wait a minute. What if your fiance is known to everyone as “Harry”, and abs ..read more

In case you missed it, we’ve been published AGAIN, this time in Brides and Weddings Magazine! Before I give you the link to see the post, let me give you a little background information. In addition to doing stationery work for clients, most stationers I know participate in styled shoots. These styled shoots are a pre-designed mockup of an event. Most times it’s a styled wedding with a specific theme that the event planner or organizer wants to showcase. The theme can be something they have never organized before but want potential couples to know is available as a part of their services. Who ..read more

I’m often asked about wedding invitation etiquette. By now I’m sure you’ve discovered that looking online at a popular wedding website is little to no help, or it doesn’t answer your question about your specific circumstances. That’s when you need the expertise of an experienced stationer, not someone who just decided to do this to earn extra money. A beautiful wedding invitation on handmade paper What’s the best way to determine how your invitation should be worded? Should it say “Bride’s name and Groom’s name cordially invite you”? Or should it say “Together with their parents, Bride’s name ..read more

In these trying days and times, we must all be FLEXIBLE and adaptable to our ever-changing environment, not only in our homes, but in everything we do! More employees work from home and several of my friends, who have returned to the office, have indicated that working from home (WFH) has become the norm for them several days each week. Some have to bring not only their laptops home, but the associated screens. They also have to wipe down and disinfect their desks when they arrive and when they leave. Of course, wearing a mask is MANDATORY! It’s a whole new work world we live in. Also consider ..read more

Punctuation Matters

In two previous posts, I briefly touched on invitation wording. But I can’t have a discussion about wording, without throwing in a few snippets about the importance of grammar and punctuation. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not a grammar guru, like my friends Shonda, Kate and Edie. When we worked together, they helped polish both my grammar and punctuation skills. I have fond memories of our sometimes loud discussions with other cube mates about the use of the Oxford comma. All of that brings me to today’s specific topic. I recently read an article that discussed the importance of a comma. In it, the ..read more

10 Things You Shouldn’t Say to Your Stationer

WOW, you would be surprised with some of the things clients have said to me about their invitations. Many times, they are valid statements, other times, not so. Some are statements I hear more often than others. Most often, there is a disconnect between what a client sees that they like and then want, but they are totally SURPRISED by the price, but that’s a topic for another post. Since I know I’m not the only stationer that hears these things, I thought to compile a list, but I also knew that if I searched the net, I would find one. So take a few minutes to read this article https://tinyurl ..read more
