First time at a swimming event? Here’s what to expect and our top tips for making it all go smoothly… Pre-Race Preparation There’s no substitute for following your training for the swim! It will give you the confidence you need to tackle the event day swim. Inevitably life will get in the way of your training so don’t panic if you don’t hit every single training session. Try to stay consistent though and you will reap the rewards of both your swim fitness and your confidence in your swimming ability. Try to swim in different conditions (within safety limits). If you only train in good calm w ..read more

From Sinking to Swimming: A Comedy of Errors in Pursuit of a 5km Swim

Greetings, fellow water enthusiasts and reluctant swimmers! Join myself and Laura on a journey that started with us struggling to swim one length without resembling a drowning cat and ended with us signing up for a 5km swim. Yes, you read that right. And no, I’m still not entirely sure how it happened! Picture this: Two peri menopausal women, flailing in the pool like a distressed penguin, gasping for air after a feeble attempt at freestyle. Oh, the humiliation! But did we let that stop us? Absolutely not! Instead, we embraced our lack of aquatic grace and turned it into a source of endless e ..read more

We are delighted to be working with Macmillan Cancer Support this year in helping them reach their fundraising targets. The money raised will help people with cancer throughout Scotland and the UK. There are so many deserving causes and charities in the UK, so it can be difficult to choose one to support. However, cancer is so prevalent that we all know someone affected by it. It is estimated that there are 3 million people in the UK currently living with cancer. In Scotland alone, 90 people each day receive a diagnosis of cancer. Cancer incidence has risen by 40% since 2002, a very startling ..read more

5 Places to Swim around Loch Lomond: By Alice Goodridge Loch Lomond has become a very popular place for open water swimming over the last few years, with many groups and individuals swimming in the loch year-round. If you are travelling to Loch Lomond for the Go Swim event and fancy an extra dip, here are my top 5 locations to swim around Loch Lomond. DUCK BAY From Balloch, head north along the A82 for two kilometres. Turn right, signposted Duck Bay Hotel, and follow the road for a few hundred metres and you’ll see a car park on the left. Access to the water is a short walk from the car park ..read more

How I will prepare for Go Swim’s Loch Lomond 10k marathon swim Plus tips for your own marathon swim, by Simon Griffiths A 10km marathon swim is a significant challenge. Elite swimmers can complete the distance in under 2 hours. The rest of us take a little longer. At Go Swim Loch Lomond 2021, finishing times ranged from 2hr21 to 4hr41. That’s a long time to be in the water. How do you prepare for it? I was terrified before my first 10km swim. I had often swum 1500m in open water through triathlon and once did a 3.8km Ironman distance swim (but never went on to do an Ironman). 10km was nearly ..read more

Can we introduce you to Dave Roberts? He attended our Loch Morlich swim in 2022 and kindly shared his thoughts in this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wZeOpf4wSCA He contacted us by email to ask for assistance in attending the swim at Loch Morlich as he is a below the knee amputee. We’re happy to say that he enjoyed the swim and appreciated the efforts we made to ensure that he could participate safely. We wanted to find out more about Dave and his background as we were full of admiration for his efforts to carry on with something that he loves after his amputation. Not all that surp ..read more
