The waters around Bali are teeming with diverse marine life, but few creatures are as awe-inspiring as the massive Mola Mola, also known as the ocean sunfish. This unusual and fascinating fish is a true gentle giant of the sea, and spotting one while scuba diving in Bali is an experience you'll never forget.
Interesting Facts About the Mola Mola
Despite their immense size (some can weigh over 2,000 pounds), Mola Molas are docile and harmless to humans. They are often seen basking in the sun near the surface, which gives them their "sunfish" nickname.
These unique fish have a lateral bo ..read more

This January we visited Ambon, Raja Ampat and Lembeh with a group of friends and divers and what a blast! We stayed at some amazing spots and saw some amazing things! This is our trip report on our third and final stop in Lembeh.
There are well-known diving destinations, and then there are places that have a reputation on a level all on their own. For critters and all things small, weird, and wonderful, there is no place better known than Lembeh.
Lembeh is a small island sitting off the north-eastern coast of Sulawesi, accessed by Manado Airport, then an hour's drive. Getting to Mana ..read more

This January we visited Ambon, Raja Ampat and Lembeh with a group of friends and divers and what a blast! We stayed at some amazing spots and saw some amazing things! This is our trip report on our second stop in Raja Ampat.
Raja Ampat has always been on our bucket list – just like pretty much every other diver on the planet! We just had to go, and so the choice of liveaboard or resort was the only difficult one we had to make! We chose the latter and opted to stay at the enticing Dive into Raja Ampat.
This was, for some of our group, our second week in Indonesia, and we flew i ..read more

This January we visited Ambon, Raja Ampat and Lembeh with a group of divers. We stayed at some amazing resorts and saw some amazing things. This is our trip report for our first stop in Ambon at Spice Island Divers.
It seems that I start so many trip reports with “We had a trip scheduled here, but then COVID came…” but sadly, this is true. Two plus years later, and the world has almost returned to a full normal. We had planned a trip to Ambon having heard so much about it in the past, and with two other destinations to check out we bolted on a stay at Spice Island Dive Resort.
Our journey too ..read more

The Scuba Place team hosted a group of 16 divers for a return visit to Bonaire in August 2023. We first visited Bonaire in 2021 during a break from the COVID lockdown. We had a great time then (read our trip report here) and wanted to experience the Shore Diving Capital of the World once again.
Our group met for an early morning flight from London Heathrow to Amsterdam with KLM. It was a short 90-minute flight and a two-hour layover in Amsterdam gave us enough time to do a little shopping for those few items we forgot to pack and a stop at duty-free. The second leg of the flight was 10 hours ..read more

Our vote for the BEST Maldives Liveaboard and the BEST Itinerary.
It goes without saying that the Maldives is a bucket list destination for scuba divers, and it doesn’t take a genius to work out that the best way to experience the Maldives is by doing a liveaboard safari – from both the quality of diving and value for money.
There are numerous itineraries to choose from and these can differ in many ways, and some are the same but just called something different, which doesn’t really help the first-time Maldives diver make their choice! We have just arrived back to cold and wet Blighty having s ..read more

During a visit to Florida, we swam with the manatee and learned some interesting facts.
John and I made a trip to the USA this Spring and had the opportunity to check out all that Florida has to offer travelling divers. We've seen manatees in various Florida marinas over the years but have never had the opportunity to swim with them so our first stop after visiting family was to Crystal River, just a little over an hour north of Tampa International Airport. Crystal River is one of the few places you can legally swim with manatees in their natural habitat. We booked a 3 hour swim with Fun 2 Div ..read more

We spent January 2023 exploring four different resorts in Indonesia. This is Part One of our Trip Report on Lembeh Resort.
17,504 islands make up the nation of Indonesia, and it has the second largest coastline of any country – nearly 55,000 kilometres. The highest island peak, the youngest population on the planet, the largest volcanic lake, and over 700 languages and dialects are spoken. There are so many things that make Indonesia unique and special, and we spent the month of January exploring four different areas to see for ourselves some of what it can offer our clients.

We spent January 2023 exploring four different resorts in Indonesia. This is Part Three of our Trip Report on Murex Manado. Read Part One on Lembeh Resort here and Part Two on Murex Bangka here.
All good things come in three’s right?
Well, with the Passport to Paradise itinerary, and the extremely well-thought-out and excellently executed travel programme, we have to agree!
Moving on from Murex Bangka to Murex Manado was the same format as from Lembeh to Bangka… bags outside the room before breakfast, a yummy breakfast, board the dive boat, and off we go – 2 dives on the way with surface inte ..read more
