Hi, muppet here - grateful for help troubleshooting. Bike is a 2003 UK 500 S E model, the one with the twin disks. I noticed the other night that my headlight isn't working (thanks to longer days I hadn't noticed until working late one day). The side light works, but not the headlamp or full beam. Wondering if I have two issues here. My right exhaust is sputtering when running and the power of the vehicle isn't consistent. Has a smoke that is spitting out on the right exhaust and the left is clean. Right side exhaust is ~250 degrees while left is 450. Recently redid the carbs because it was spewing gas out, this was because one or both floaters werent closing. Can run but as stated the power doesnt maintain. So I did my valve adjustment everything seems to have gone fine but the coolant pipes are giving me trouble getting them back in I got them to go in with a bit of force and vasoline but when the pipes are in (not screwed in yet) they have some Freeplay back and forth is that normal? Also when I was doing the actual adjustment I noticed the cam loves on intake and exhaust weren't "in sync" like they'd both be pointing up from the valves but one would be a little less straight up ..read more

Hey all and thanks in advance for who can help, cranking on the bike discovered battery wire to the solenoid gets way too hot along with the solenoid itself and the starter wire. any idea where to start and continuing from that would be great slowly going through and cleaning grounds as i find them, don’t really want to have to open the harness and check for and major breaks hidden if i don’t have too. thanks again for whoever can help ..read more

As some here know, I crashed my Aprilia last summer. In the process I destroyed some of my gear. I’ve already replaced my trashed KYT helmet with a Nolan N60G Petrucci replica described in another thread. The junction box clicks when i try to honk the horn or use the start button etc, but only when the clutch is pulled in. And it won’t crank and the horn is super weak, mainly what I hear is just a click in the junction box. I also noticed if I grip the clutch and move it slightly the junction box clicks to that too. The battery gives 13 volts I tested it with a multimeter, and I also bypassed the starter button by using a screw driver to the solenoid and it cranks over great. Any help ..read more

I raced a 94’ for the past 2 seasons. My son crashed the bike the last day out last season. Instead of buying all the parts to fix, I spent $500 on a 2002 model with only 5,800 miles on it. Turns out the 02’ is cleaner, newer, and definitely not as banged up as the 94’ which has been raced since 98. I decided to convert the 02’ for the track and race it this season.
