There are quite a few bands making a post-punk sound which I lazily describe as being influenced by The Fire Engines, The Raincoats, Delta 5, Girls At Our Best as well as decade old revivalists such as Liechtenstein. Whatever happened ..read more

Dandy Boy Records (DBR) is a Californian based label who were previously known to me because of their Aluminum and The 1981 releases, not to mention their reissue of Seablite’s debut album. This handy pay what you want compilation is a good place to check out the other acts on their roster.
I have already started digital crate digging with some of the acts here. The fuzzy pop of Smile Too Much has drawn me right in and I have already snagged their recordings to date. Damned compilations eh? There is more pop fuzziness courtesy of husband/wife duo Funeral Cake, whose recordings to date have ..read more

As we enter the last fortnight of the year, the usual round of compilations & samplers are making an appearance. Here are three that have caught my eye. Er, I mean ear!
A Chaotic Pop Records Compilation – I Know It’s Only A CDR Release, But I Love It!
I don’t really need to add anything else to what I have written previously these past few months about Indonesian label Chaotic Records. I think this compilation should be compulsory for any indiepop and twee-pop fan. Available on CDR but, thanks to the postage costs, it’s also available digitally from the label.

As we hurtle towards the end of another year, here are some releases gathered from the last four weeks or so. We have three from Chaotic Pop Records. This Indonesian label has fast come my favourite of this year and if they keep it up, next year too! We have lead tracks from the forthcoming Ducks Ltd. and The BV’s albums which hint at special things to come.
93MillionMilesFromTheSun have returned with a new EP and are one of the many shoegazing highlights in the mix. And indiepop? That’s covered by the likes of mmmarkos!, The Yellow Melodies, Pálida Tez, April June and a few more besides. As ..read more

Another three releases I have been listening to this past week or so, summed up by others on the net. Please add these sites to your reading lists, RSS feeds, sidebars, bookmarks etc. Or at least give them a visit!
Lightheaded – Good Good Great!
“Fully realized and full of shiny tonal surfaces, this stuff goes down like honey. Lightheaded do so much here with just a few elements. And yet, the tunes on Good Good Great are distinct, with each a little pop gem. Vocally, this aligns with the recent Jeanines records on this imprint, and musically with the Papercuts and Peel Dream Magazine ones. Bu ..read more
