I hope someone somewhere has based their PhD on the writing of and, to me, so many of her wise words also apply to Ferris.  . I also like the . I really wish I had taken the time to listen to this before reading this book - it sure does set an additional beautiful tone to the story as Billy Jackson sits in the Wakely house playing this tune in the background to all family happenings. And I had no idea Billy Jackson was such a piano virtuoso.  Betsy Bird's review of Raymie Nightingale ..read more

Each book by Wendy Meddour and Daniel Egneus sensitively explores feelings in a way in which young children can understand and empathise with. Moving house and/or school is such a significant event at any time of life, but for some children, particularly those who are quiet or shy, it can be really difficult. Through the Bookshelf is a fairly new discovery of mine, but I have to say I have totally fallen in love with her books and with the illustrations by Daniel Egneus. to your collection. It would be the perfect book for your younger classes to hear at the start of the year. I highly recomme ..read more

Here are some other books by Ryan T Higgins: and Norman Didn't do it (yes he did) has very appropriately earned one of these stickers. This book should be added to your school library and preschool bookshelf and you should also borrow it from your local library or badger them to purchase it. I do have to add, though, that very sadly this book costs over AUS$35 here in Australia so you might need to wait for the paperback edition. My copy was published in September, 2021 so hopefully the paperback is not too far away. This book could also be one to read aloud in your library or as a discussion ..read more

Although there are plenty of picture books out there that aim to open the eyes of more privileged children, there are few which manage to achieve that with this level of simplicity and implicitness. Egnéus' imagery cleverly weaves motifs of hope - glowing light and blooming flora - with a use of colour that speaks to children's hearts. The text nearly always leaves the reader wanting to know more: why did they arrive on the beach at night? Why were Daddy's arms salty? What was the World of Tents? Why did they have to stay in the tent during winter? That Boy Can Teach ..read more
