Welcome to Wednesday! Let’s catch up with what’s happening in the Coachella Valley … A year after its soft opening and six months after its grand opening, La Quinta’s X Park appears to be catching on with both local and national extreme sports participants. While daily admission is available, about 1,000 people pay for a yearly membership, which ranges from $25 to $50, depending on residency.   The ..read more

Welcome to Wednesday! A pair of Indio high school students have successfully started their own nonprofit organization – and are now looking to help children in the foster care system. Through their youth club called HOPE, which stands for Helping Other People Every Day, twin sisters Brianna and Natalie Fabian set out on a mission to collect donated gifts for a “Mother’s Day boutique” in May that will allow foster children to select free presents for their foster mothers, biological mothers or even social workers.  For the past three years, the sisters have focused their efforts on ..read more

Welcome to Wednesday and happy Passover to all marking the occasion tonight. Looking to give local cannabis cultivators some relief, the Desert Hot Springs City Council approved slashing taxes the city charges them for the first half of this year. Councilmembers voted 4-1 during their regular meeting Tuesday evening to approve a temporary 50% tax reduction on the cultivation rate charged to growers. The result will be more than $1.1 million in lost revenue, which will be made up for by dipping into the city’s Cannabis Emergency Reserve, which currently contains more than $5 millio ..read more

Welcome to midweek, everyone. The Cathedral City Council moved forward on plans for a new downtown dog park last week, hoping to secure grant money to make it happen. The future dog park would be located at the site of the former Second Street Park in downtown. The location was chosen because existing infrastructure at the site could lower construction costs. Preliminary designs for the park include different sections for small and large dogs, a parking lot, a walking path, and plans for a pickleball court. At last week’s meeting, councilmembers voted to approve $30,000 for a contract with a ..read more
