LAKE FOREST — The Bears selected Iowa punter Tory Taylor with the 122nd pick in the fourth round on Saturday’s Day 3 of the 2024 NFL Draft. Taylor holds nearly every record one could think of when it comes to punting. His 295 punts for 13,657 yards is a school record for the Hawkeyes. Taylor also won the 2023 Ray Guy Award as a senior — which is given to college football’s top punter. “I was always pretty confident that I was going to get drafted,” Taylor said. “It was really just a matter of how high. It’s funny my girlfriend’s from Chicago. I was like imagine the Bears use their pick at 122 ..read more

LAKE FOREST — Caleb Williams and Rome Odunze are not limiting themselves when it comes to the expectations they have for their rookie season. If anything, the two first-round draft picks are setting a new standard for how things should be for the Chicago Bears organization. Williams isn’t tempering what can be accomplished for the 2024 season just because he is a rookie. “What’s the reason to duck? It’s here,” Williams said as the pair of rookies arrived at Halas Hall on Friday. “There’s no reason to duck. I’m here. Rome’s here. Keenan Allen, the top-five defense that we had last year, special ..read more

White Sox’ horrid start is just the start: ‘This wasn’t going to be a quick fix by any stretch’

Get comfortable, White Sox fans. This might take a while. Chris Getz was promoted to general manager last summer in part because he could bring a new winning era around quicker than anyone else, so said Jerry Reinsdorf, who didn’t interview any outside candidates to replace Ken Williams and Rick Hahn atop the baseball department. “One of the things I owe the fans is to get better as fast as we can possibly get better,” Reinsdorf said the day Getz was introduced as Hahn’s successor. “Speed is of the essence. I don’t want this to be a long-term proposition. “Everybody talks about when you build ..read more

Pete Crow-Armstrong, Cubs stepping up as injuries mount

Before Wednesday’s game, Cubs manager Craig Counsell was honest about why Pete Crow-Armstrong is with the team at the moment. He’s the Cubs’ top prospect, but he didn’t get the call back up because they’d seen the development they needed to see from him early in the year. Instead, the injuries that have plagued the Cubs throughout April ultimately led to them needing Crow-Armstrong to join the big league club. Winning is the goal at this level, and when necessary, that takes priority over keeping a guy in the minors to get everyday playing time for the sake of his development. “Pete’s here bec ..read more

Chicago Bears’ Best Available on Day 2 of the 2024 NFL Draft

How can it get better than Caleb Williams and Rome Odunze for the Bears? Chicago currently holds two more picks in the 2024 NFL Draft, with the No. 75 overall selection in the third round, as well as pick No. 122 in the fourth via Philadelphia. Drafting Odunze with the No. 9 overall pick shouldn’t come as a surprise, but paired with Williams at No. 1, it’s the first time since 1988 that the Bears spent multiple first-rounders on offensive players. Ryan Poles didn’t explicitly express a desire to accumulate more draft capital and is perfectly fine leaving Detroit with a four-person draft class ..read more

After adding Caleb Williams with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, Ryan Poles is adding another lethal weapon for the young quarterback. The Chicago Bears selected Rome Odunze with the No. 9 overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft on Thursday night. Odunze was the third receiver off the board following Marvin Harrison Jr. and Malik Nabers. In an offseason that saw the Bears trade a 2024 4th-round selection to the Los Angeles Chargers for Keenan Allen, Bears GM Ryan Poles still opted to bolster the receiving corps with the best available offensive player at No. 9. At Washington, Odunze ..read more
