Dummy follow last years Mandatory Enjoyment long player with a new single recorded for the Sub Pop Records Singles Club. Mono Retriever is a full on romp through krautrock, drone and psych tinged synth-pop that answers to the call of the likes of Pram, Broadcast and a band beginning with S that I promised not to mention anymore. Flipside Pepsi Vacuum ventures into ambient territory with it’s call to nature. Plenty of scratchy sounds mixed with hazy vocals that present a chilled vibe. It could be the sound of My Bloody Valentine if they took the Brian Eno route. Mono Retriever is out now via S ..read more

Danzas – Siaran Langsung

I have not heard of the Indonesian band Danzas before. Maybe it is because they take their musical cues from a decade before most of their peers, although given that I could not find anything else about them, Siaran Langsung must be their debut release. Inspired by early Krautock, psychedelia and drone, the band deliver a nine-minute epic that either fuzzes you out or makes you want to dance. Or a bit of both to be fair. If The Stone Roses were more influenced by Can, Neu! or Faust, rather than Sly and The Family Stone, they may have well sounded like this. Or consider it a drone-ish Weekende ..read more

San Francisco’s Aluminum, who were founded by members of Wild Moth, are releasing their debut EP on October 07 2022. Titled the Windowpane EP it features six track including the title track that has just been released as a lead single. Whilst there are some shoegazing undertones there are also plenty of elements taken from done and krautrock. This gives the song a motoring sound resplendent with effective monotone vocals. If you are a fan of Stereolab or what Pale Blue Eyes or Dummy are currently doing then give this lot a listen. The Windowpane EP is split release between Dandy Boy Records ..read more

The Crystal Furs – Charlatan Hot on the heel ..read more
