So, I was invited to DJ for the first time and provide a psyche set. At least that’s what I think my brief was. I ran with that anyway. After a couple of lessons on the ones and twos with the event organiser, and feeling a bit nervous, I took the plunge at Voodoo Keller, a popular bar in Chelmsford. Certain elements of Our Final Invention may well be familiar to those who took more than a passing interest in Britpop. Or what followed that scene to be precise. Legendary Cocteau Twins guitarist Robin Guthrie caps off a hugely productive year with the release of a new EP ‘Riviera’. This follows the ‘Mockingbird Love’ four-track EP in October and the Pearldiving LP in November. ‘Mockingbird Love’ was his first new music since Another Flower, the 2020 album he released with Harold Budd just days before Budd’s death.
