I am trying to distribute the time correctly between El Bolson or Esquel and would appreciate to know which of the two has more "not so hard" trails (up to 15-20 km return and elevation gain up to 500 m)? Could you please name some with these characteristics both in El Bolson and Esquel. We shall have a car so driving to get to the trail will not be a problem ..read more

According to the internet, Brazil uses both 127 volts and 220 in newer buildings. I wonder if I can use European type plug to charge my 110/220 volt charging cable to charge my iPhone and iPad ..read more

2 weeks in Chile for nature lovers - itinerary advice!

I've greatly enjoyed reading through these forums and thanks to everyone who has already given their expertise and advice! My partner and I will be traveling to Chile in April next year. We'd like to balance the trip between having 3-4 days in a big city (Santiago I guess), and the rest of the time somewhere slow and scenic. I'd appreciate any itinerary recommendations. We live close to the beach in Australia and so are more excited to see mountains and lakes than we are the ocean. We love birdwatching, hiking and kayaking. Not super keen on driving (other side of the road!) but happy to do i ..read more

Hello, we are considering flying to Buenos Aires (ex London) over Christmas, then we are interested in heading inland to Bariloche (and perhaps Salta): from Bariloche, we like the idea of taking the boat and bus westward across the 3 lakes and the Andes arriving in Chile, then possibly to fly back to London ex Chile (Santiago?) Of course we must make sure we can get tickets for the Bariloche lakes expedition. Thoughts ..read more

Opinions on Short Inca and Lares Trail for slow hiker

Hello, I am planning a first trip to Peru for 2024. I am hoping that someone(s) can provide a description of what to expect terrain-wise on the Short Inca Trail. I love to hike but am slower than average going downhill / down steps due to a depth perception and peripheral vision issue. I'm in my 30's, otherwise fit, and can cruise downhill / down steps with a railing (I know there are no railings) or a hand on my husband's arm. Without either of those, I am a two feet on each stair descender and would be uncomfortable if there were open ledges on either side of the stairs. I would not be emba ..read more

Looking for recommendation for area to stay in La Paz, Bolivia

A friend and I are on the way to check in on our college kids who are spending the year in Bolivia working at an orphanage. In mid October we'll be arriving into La Paz around 6am on a Saturday and flying out around 8am on Monday. So we've got two nights and a full Sunday in La Paz. Our goal will be to do some shopping for things to bring to the orphanage and we'd like to do a bit of sightseeing as well. Where should we stay in? My main interest is what part of the city should we stay in. I know the elevation will be a challenge so we'd prefer to stay in a place where we won't have to walk too ..read more
