Within a system their is an element of free will in that frame of reference if you will. But to an observer outside of that system, the free will isn't there because you can see the outside elements that come into play.. This is interesting. Some won’t like this but I plugged your statement into Pi A.I.. Here’s what I got: The concept of free will can be thought of as relative to the frame of reference, or the level of information available to the observer. Within a system, an individual may appear to have free will because they can make choices and act based on their own desires and be ..read more

Here’s what I got: Someone else here with more knowledge and expertise than me might be able to elaborate on Laplace’s Demon but to me it looks like the “hypothetical being” could be referred to as God. In and through all things knowing the end from the beginning. Even though we feel as though we have free will (and do as a matter of fact for all intents and purposes…accountability, guilt, joy in choosing right over wrong, etc….we do), God might be able to see it all from a perspective in which free w ..read more

I remember getting a little triggered when my kid old told me he learned a lot about President Trump in Pre-K, but then I calmed down when I remembered it is common for kids to learn about the current President. I remember learning positive things about Carter, Reagan and Bush, while I was in school. I've never heard of anyone telling kids to "sing" praises to Obama though. It seems like that would be something FOX News would have put on the air every night if true. Large crowd sizes for Obama were bigger than those for Trump. The difference is they wanted to be part of history, helping elect ..read more

I honestly don't see how the GOP escapes Trump's thrall before his death. Every GOP politician with a shred of integrity has stepped aside. The rest are simpleminded lickspittles. Statistics: Posted by Some Schmo — Thu May 16, 2024 8:38 pm ..read more

Arguments from incredulity seem to me extremely common, if not indeed almost omnipresent, when a proffered explanation is rejected. And I don't see them as inherently bad or false. They're certainly omnipresent in Daniel's work. "How could Joseph Smith have written the Book of Mormon? It must have been God." "How could the 8 witnesses have lied about hefting the plates? They must have been real." "How could 120 people, including ones who weren't in the room, lie about Brigham's transfiguration? He must have been transformed." Daniel lacks the imagination necessary to entertain any other ..read more

Spirit Paradise • Romney on Pardoning Trump

In a recent interview, Romney expressed regret that Joe Biden didn’t pardon Trump. Pardoning a president for committing crimes that have nothing to do with his official duties is a huge mistake. Ford was wrong to pardon Nixon. At least one can see how it happened. Ford was, after all, a Republican, and Nixon retired because Congressional leaders in his own party urged him to resign. The age of sanity and decency has ended. Republicans who decried Trump’s assault on our Republic flipped and started to promote the Big Lie. Trump shamelessly presses forward, advertising his authoritarian plans f ..read more

My favorite Pahoran episode was from ZLMB, when the subject of Ronald E. Poelman's re-taped conference talk was raised. He had never heard of this and outright denied that it could be true. When his fellow apologists on the board finally managed to convince him that it happened, he immediately changed course and began defending it as if it were the most natural thing in the world. It was quite a thing to behold. One moment he found the story so outrageous that he was offended that critics would have the gall to invent such a thing. The next, he regarded it as so benign and commonplace that ..read more

There is this presumption that yours is the better way when your proof is lacking and has as its basis feelings, not facts and analysis. Then you push it on everyone, like your selling something, just like a missionary would do. I disagree with your analysis and conclusion. In this thread as it has evolved into a discussion on free will I have presented my thoughts/opinions and additional information that can be used as food for thought from A.I. knowledge retrieval systems. Not sure what you mean by “your proof is lacking”. If that is true I think you should be a bit more specific and then ..read more
