I'm finalizing my music I wrote in high school and getting ready in the next few weeks (time willing) to start the tracking process. I know nothing about this sort of thing and have watched a couple videos but I am going to have a ton of questions that are silly and dumb. Also @BlackMastadon said he needed this. So here it is ..read more

Ambience and "washed out" guitars - how to do it?

Hi All. Please be patient with me, I'm a noob and may or may not be half-retarded. Influenced by my recurring obsession with some specific bands and their tone and atmosphere I started to wonder how would I reproduce this kind of stuff in my own playing (covers, mainly). On the surface it looks like there are two things that I am asking today, but I thin they have something in common. So without further ado: 1. Really, reallly washed out guitars in some black metal bands - e.g. Akhlys... Read more ..read more

Video of DAW sessions. HOW To?

I have Pro Tools, and in collaborating with someone on another DAW, I am trying to "Screen Record" from my Pro Tools session, with my interface audio as the output source. In doing so, I capture all that I want to visually from the edit/arrange window, but when I play back to video file, the audio sounds like ricotta cheese in a plastic bag under a pillow. Consequently, when I bounce a .mp3 of the audio only, it sounds just fine. I'm wondering how to accomplish both. I'm collaborating with... Read more ..read more

1/4” guitar cable into MacBook Pro? (USB-C or TBolt options)

Hey all, back with another burning question . Is running quarter inch guitar cable, into a device which goes into high power laptop USB-C or TBolt port a thing? Is that a popular option nowadays for a quick portable rig? I would love to run Toneforge Disruptor from a MacBook Pro using it’s speakers and/or headphones. For recording quick ideas or just playing in the living room for example. Plugging straight into the MacBook without a full blown interface like Apollo etc. In addition would... Read more ..read more

I took a look into the Gojira X from Neural DSP. I won't make you sound like Gojira but it is definitely a quality amp sim with great attention to detail. I play some riffs and share some thoughts ..read more

I did another Riff Testing video about ReAmp2: this time looking at the HM-2 and Metal Zone pedals and comparing/contrasting them. I had a lot of fun writing riffs with these. If you happen to have ReAmp 2, I've made the presets available for download. If you like guitar stuff like this, please subscribe as I have some more coming down the pipe ..read more

Drum MIDI packs?

Any recommendations for MIDI Drum packs for Superior Drummer? I want to bounce my ideas around with some new drum midi packs. I write stuff that is a mix of Metalcore/Djent/Deathcore, proggy stuff like Cynic or groovy metal like Breaking Benjamin. I adore the style of Breaking Benjamin and their groovy drum beats, the same with Emmure and Darko. I already have the Deathlike Fusion (RIP Sean Reinert!) which has been great for me. I've exhausted the stock Metal Machinery stuff, it's very... Read more ..read more

Extreme metal mix feedback

Hi All, I notice that the highs on my mix are noticeably more defined than most other songs, especially on the guitars. But I like the mix. I think bc the highs are dominating a bit and it makes the mix sound a bit scooped, and as a result the mix is a little quieter when normalized to -14lufs on loudnesspenalty.com than other tracks which I like I've listened on many different mediums and the mix translates quite well, but just a bit quieter than other songs. What do you think? I also... Read more ..read more
