Hi guys, my wife is starting her podcast and would like to be able to mix the audio of her voice with a bit of music at the beginning and at the end. So, basically I'm looking for a two-track mixer that can do fade-out and fade-in. I think most DAWs would be overkill. Do you have anything to recommend? Thanks in advance! Martin ..read more

Argh! Trying to find my voice (literally)

First let me say on my best day I'm no Sinatra or McCartney or whatever and have no delusions of ever being that. But I have sang in public and people didn't head for the door  At times I dare say I have sounded good even. But this isn't simply about quality...I can sing in diff styles and voices, which seems to be a blessing and a curse. A blessing as I can approximate diff singers for various songs people want to hear, which is handy for performing, but have never really found my own true voice, my "timbre," for lack of a better word...and this is a major roadblock in recordin ..read more

Electronic Drums

Many of us find ourselves recording in spaces that are too small for real drums and/or share walls with neighbors. Some of us may not know any drummers or at least any that we want to record with and some of us just want to get funky.    I have a small electronic set that I got piece by piece - Roland HPD-15 Handsonic, added a kick sensor and pedal, Korg Wavedrum Global, a small mixer and a stool. I have real hi hats. I haven't used this set as a set yet, I have used the Handsonic and the Korg individually on some things.    The Korg is the best thing ever, if you play it w ..read more

I was so busy with NAMM stuff, I forgot to post this. I will jump to May tomorrow.       Welcome to one of our favorite annual topics––Studio Upgrades! Perfectly timed to be handed out in person at the April NAMM show in Anaheim, Studio upgrades can be a better microphone, a new flavor of compression, a shiny new plugin, or it can be the addition of room treatment, a super fast hard drive, or even simply re-arranging your racks and gear layout to improve your workflow. All this and more is the focus of our April issue.   Reviews   What is a NAMM issue without a hearty ..read more

Piano Recording from photo camera - which microphone?

Hi,   I know nothing about microphones, am the spouse of a professional pianist, have recently bought a canon R5 and wish to record chamber music / small classical concerts (30-200 people in quite small rooms) with the best sound as possible in my budget (a few hundred euros). I can put the camera and microphone wherever I want and am therefore thinking about Rode VideoPro+ since quite easy to set up. I am afraid Stereo VideoMic X would record environment noises, but recording stereo might provide a better atmosphere though or maybe go with a Zoom h4n, quite complicated but mayb ..read more

Anybody use a Soyuz Launcher or Launcher Deluxe?

I have a friend with a studio in Fresno who likes the Launcher.  I noticed that for the cost of 2 Launchers I could get the Launcher Deluxe which has 2 Launchers and also has a switch that allows phantom power to come through the device so you can use condenser mics or run line in - this feature turns off the +26db of gain so something is lost and something is gained but you still get 2 complete Launchers plus extra features for the same price as buying 2 Launchers.    Anybody have either of them? How do you like them? Thanks in advance ..read more

Make Your Voice Heard   From sports to entertainment, health advice, political discourse and beyond, Podcasting is now stitched seamlessly into our online experience and, for many of us, our daily listening regimen.   While some podcasters prefer the set-it-and-forget-it simplicity of an affordable USB mic, for others, it's a full-scale pro production of microphones, interfaces, compressors and more.    At its heart, Podcasting is about getting clear, high-quality voice recordings. This makes it similar to traditional broadcast and commercial voiceover work––this is ..read more
