Hello, We will be in Puerto Quetzal on a Sunday and wish to go to Antigua on our own. Will there be taxis available at the port to take us there, and taxis available in Antigua to return us to port? What would be the approximate cost? Will most things be open on a Sunday in Antigua? Thanks, Diane ..read more

Antiqua on your own

Will be taking the Princess Antiqua on your own transfer in February. I've read several posts about hiring a guide at the drop-off point for something like $10 per person. Do experienced cruisers suggest we do this or just go it on our own? And if you suggest hiring a guide, any advice on to go about that? Thanks in advance ..read more

We'll be taking an "Antigua on Your Own" tour out of Puerto Quetzal in January, and I'd very much appreciate any recommendations for places to have lunch in the central area of Antigua.   (I did do a forum search before posting.)   Thanks for any information!  ..read more

Visiting Antigua from Puerto Quetzal

I was wondering if anyone has recently done any of the Antigua tours from either of the cruise ports lately. The last report in the forums I can find looks to be from 2018. A lot can change on the ground, politically, in a country in that amount of time.   I'd really like to do the self-guided Antigua tour that Celebrity offers. State Department doesn't list Antiqua's department (county) as a higher risk than Guatemala itself right now (Level 2- Exercise Extra Caution).   I'd be happy to hear anyone's stories of their recent visits!   ..read more

Santo Tomas de Castilla - GUATEMALA our day

Just thought I would post some details about our recent day in Santo Tomas as there seemed very little info available on the forums.   Our ship Marella discovery 2 docked in Santo Tomas which is a container port so there is no where to walk to. Once you get off the ship there is a large warehouse with indoor market selling some nice handmade crafts just remember to barter to about 1/4 of their starting price.      Outside there are many taxi and mini buses taking you on a trip inland or boat companies taking you up the dulce river and Livingston. We took a boat trip. Each c ..read more

Puerto Quetzal: Things To Do NEAR The Cruise Port (Restaurants, Shopping, etc).

We are trying to decide what to do while at port in Puerto Quetzal, Guatemala.  I have viewed a few Youtube videos of the port area, but it didn't look as though there were many (if any) restaurant/bar areas.  Perhaps there is more than the videos are showing.    If there is not much at the port, we will likely do an excursion to either Antigua or Guatemala City.   Thanks ..read more

Has anyone ever taken this excursion?  After seeing Antigua, the tour goes to the Antigua Brewing Company for beer sampling and snacks.  Sounds good.   Another excursion is "Antigua On Your Own".  Not sure if this brewery would be within walking distance if we took that excursion.     ..read more

Puerto Quetzal -- Recommend Excursions (Especially Guatemala City versus Antigua)

We will be on a Panama Cruise in January on the NCL Bliss.  We are looking for recommendations for our time at Puerto Quetzal, Guatemala.  Any excursions that you can recommend?  From my perspective...a tour that gives a genuine feel for the country would be nice.  But great scenery is something that is always appealing.  Guatemala City looks interesting, as does Antigua.  ...  But we are open to other ideas as well.   Thanks ..read more
