Great morning, started a bit slow until the tide got coming in good. The day was a start of negative by .5 ft.    all caught on shrimp. I stepped back and went back to the basics, pounding mangroves. Hit and run the edges, toss a shrimp in wait and drop in a couple feet away. Hitting open areas accessible to get a cast in. Doing this you don’t spend a lot of time as if you were fishing structures, like bridge legs.    snook and redfish released, snook is out of season/ plus small to the mix. Redfish was a rat undersized slot.    kept 3 mangroves, biggest being 12 ..read more

I will be heading down to Florida on Saturday for a 2-week visit with friends and family.  We will be on the Gulf side in Punta Gorda and Bonita Springs.  I plan to fish Charlotte Harbor estuary twice with a fishing guide I have fished with for 15+ years.  He never fails to put me/us on the fish.  I will also be fishing saltwater canals and small lakes/large ponds.  I will try to post reports and pics as I go ..read more

Family has a place down in Longboat. I’ve gone before and had some luck right off the beach with tins. I’ll be going down this month. Any pointers for other lures/baits off the beach and in the bay/canal would be greatly appreciated. Haven’t been there in February so not sure what to expect species wise.  thanks ..read more

Another one of those days, nothing amazing to see. One small snook as a bycatch looking for sheepshead. Outside of that tiny, small, and chewing was the best that was to happen. The water has warmed back up at 72*. I’m done looking for sheepshead that are of keeper size, that ship left back after thanksgiving.    Now off to the next different direction. Going to get back to soaking cut mullet for reds or snook and also going after trout. The trout have been on the channel edges.    I won’t get out for another couple weeks.  ..read more

Started with a foot negative tide, always fun to have water that low.    A group of small sheepshead and one big one lost again, like the last two times out. This time I got it to the edge of the kayak, went to net and it took right off. It was certainly to green to net that quick. It went from hooked to surface that quick.    water has warmed up a bit to 65*, and wind was blowing hard. With the negative tide the incoming was much stronger, with wind and tide together.  ..read more
