A little update on my blog!

As 2023 is flying past at great speed I thought I should just write a quick blog post as it's been quite some time since the last one. There just doesn’t seem enough hours in the day to find time to write regular posts. I have to focus on making jewellery commissions, remodelling and replying to all the emails and social media messages, alongside all the other things that keep a business ticking along. So just to say, I’m here working away - always at the end of the phone or email if you want to get I touch. Don’t worry if you think the posts are a little back dated, I ..read more

I'm delighted to be exhibiting at Goldsmiths' Fair again this year during week one, from 28th September to 3rd October. After such a long time of not doing any shows due to the pandemic, it will be a real treat to once again stand behind my cabinet and chat to clients. I will be bringing along a selection of jewellery that you may have seen on my website, but there's not room for all of it! There will also be some new pieces not yet shown! If you would like to see a particular design that has caught your eye from the website do get in touch and let me know that you are ..read more

January 2021 Update
Sue Lane Blog

Goodness me - it's 2021 already and I have just spotted that my last blog post was back in May last year! Hoping you're all well and taking care of yourself. As I type, here in the UK we are in lockdown three, and hoping there is light at the end of the tunnel. I am so fortunate to be able to continue working while not leaving the grounds of my home. I have reduced the amount of trips to my local post office to just one or two a week and nearly all of my supplies can be posted out to me, so I really am in a lucky position.  I have really enjoyed chatting with clients throu ..read more

Inspired by the May sunshine

Hasn't the weather been amazing? Just seeing blue skies and everything bursting into bud and flower is so inspiring. I have enjoyed taking a little longer to walk the dog, morning and evening, enjoying the views and photographing those walks over the past weeks. I look back over the images regularly and they feed into the stones I choose, the metals I work with and the designs I make.   Leaves, twigs and branches are perhaps one of the things I photograph most.  Getting low down and and photographing the field from a low angle is one of my favourite shots, the dandelion seed h ..read more

The new normal...for a contemporary jeweller
Sue Lane Blog
by Adrian Linney

I am now figuring out the new normal, much like all of you, for what's possible in these difficult times. I am still in the jewellery studio and working on various commissions. As you might expect, all my suppliers have now shut down until there is light at the end of the tunnel, which has restricted what I can make and send out. I have been reluctant to commit to any form of deadline at the moment, as there are just so many unknowns, and I really don't want to disappoint. No one needs additional worry or concern at the moment. However, there are still options! I have put together an onl ..read more

In these difficult times....

Who would have thought a few months back we would all find ourselves in such difficult, worrying and turbulent times. Coronavirus has taken as all by surprise. I feel for each and everyone who is affected. I also feel incredibly fortunate to live and work in the rural isolation I do. I've been self-employed for 20 years and for the majority of that time have worked alone and enjoy it very much. For many, it is not a natural way of life, and I understand.  I am continuing to work and keep my routine as normal as possible. I am of course governed by the outside world, d ..read more

Time flies... where did January disappear to?

I shouldn't really say it, but I will. Happy New Year from me and my workshop buddy, we wish you all a fabulous 2020 - and I'm going to overlook the fact we are in February! I hit the ground running at the beginning of January. Lots of lovely clients had given me time to finish my Christmas orders first, and finish their pieces in January.  And so, with those things pressing on my mind, I jumped back into work with a row of lovely things to finish, which I really loved. (Luckily they did too!) This bespoke commission for my clients' birthday was one of my favourites, and made even mo ..read more

Autumn at it's best

What's not to love about all the glorious Autumn colours here in the UK at the moment? I simply can't help taking photographs every morning while walking the dog through the squelching Herefordshire fields and woods. I'm certainly working all the hours I can at the moment to make all the lovely jewellery commissions and orders that have come in over the past few weeks, and thanks to Goldsmiths' Fair, the order book is full. I love making and refuse to rush that part of the job. Every piece I make, I want to be as perfect as my hands can possibly make. I would rather turn away a commission ..read more

It's nearly time for Goldsmiths' Fair 2019

Autumn has arrived; the shadows are getting longer, the leaves are turning and there's a chill in the air as I head to the studio. That means one thing, Goldsmiths' Fair is just a round the corner. I am delighted to be showing here once again at the most prestigious contemporary jewellery and silverware exhibition in the UK. This will be my 14th fair, but the nerves and desire to show something new doesn't fade.  Here is a taster of some of the new contemporary jewellery pieces I will be showing: I love the colours of this ring - I used 18ct rose gold to bring out the beautiful warmth of ..read more

Mid summer catch up
Sue Lane Blog
by Adrian Linney
7M ago
Oh wow, where has the time gone since my last blog post in April? Here's a little round up of what's been happening since then. Spring turned to Summer. The studio was buzzing with online orders and jewellery commissions for summer weddings and engagements.  I went to Craft Festival in Devon. I met some lovely new clients, some existing clients which I hadn't met face to face and caught up with lots of makers and friends, all while chatting and selling contemporary jewellery. Oh yes, and squelched in a little bit of mud!  It was then straight back to the jewellery workbench and mor ..read more
