I have had a day away from the studio (February is a restful time of year) with fresh air and interesting company with leaders from the Yorkshire Wildlife trust. We went to Filey Brigg on a fossil walk looking at evidence of creatures who lived millions of years ago and also rock formations. a grand day out indeed, especially as it reminded me of a most enjoyable commission from a few years ago to make an oxidised silver and pearl necklace and earring set.
Inspiration and the chance to spend the day splashing about in rock pools in a pair of wellies grand ..read more

I’m a bit taken with dragonflies at the moment, they are beginning to emerge in the garden zooming around in horizontal lines. A marvel of natural engineering. This little one is swooping over the meadow

A little hare bangle is bounding off to its new owner, I hope they enjoy wearing this. The symbolism is a little hare running along in front of a tree of life underneath the moon. All of these are positive symbols, And the fact there are three is a bit of extra magic ..read more

For the first time in my jewellery making life, I have had a creative block. I think I should be grateful that for the last 16 years or so there has never been a day of a moment when I haven’t wanted to create with everything that’s going on in this precious world with its precious people I found I simply couldn’t start. I have been in my studio shuffling things around picking tools up and putting them down and even sitting with my saw and a piece of metal nothing happened. This been going on for two weeks now. I think it was the sadness of having to shut down the teaching Studio and really no ..read more

Due to the pandemic, I have had to make a difficult decision regarding the teaching studio. After nearly a year of it standing empty, and no idea if or when we will be able to re-open. It is now closed.
In the bigger scale of things, and seeing the trauma the frontline workers are experiencing on a daily basis, it is nothing. But I am sad.
Thank you all so much for filling it with the sound of hammering, joy, laughter and love ..read more

I'm always a bit more energetic during the sunnier weather, it fills me with optimism and generally a bit more get up and go (although it needs discipline to leave the sunny garden and go start work in the darker studio).
However I'm not the only one running on solar here as with a bit of a 'Heath Robinson' set up involving one solar panel and two storage batteries, I have been able to run my polishing machines, drills & lights from the sunshine energy. It is another step towards making this jewellery in the cleanest greenest way I can. After all, I'm grateful when I complete my work that ..read more

and I'm back in the studio getting ready.
It's been a bit of a challenging year with quite a bad bout of covid, ( I had to cancel four workshops) but I'm pleased to say it's over and I'm hoping for a good standard of immunity for a while. Now I'm catching up with the outstanding orders and prepping for my Spring event with Made in Yorkshire - in York city centre, on parliament street (just outside M&S) 7th to 10th of April 2022
Do stop by & say Hi if you are in the area . x Diane ..read more
