Hey all I've recently been diagnosed as prediabetic however I have my doubts about this tbh (for a few reasons) My question is how many blood tests did you guys have before being diagnosed? How many borderline vs absolutely perfect creates the pattern to say prediabetic? And also, is it possible to get the Dr's to withdraw the diagnosis if you can prove it was a mistake? (I know it'll take some doing for that -_- ) Thanks in advance ..read more

Home blood prick tests - a waste of time?

A year ago I was diagnosed with prediabetes. I worked at losing weight, bought one of those small testing kits and it showed that I was out of the prediabetes zone. I tested myself every week or two for a year, sometimes after food, sometimes first thing in the morning, sometimes any time of day. All results for the year were lower than 7mol/L, some in the low 4's, most mid 5's, a few 6's. I felt happy that things were going OK. So, a few weeks ago I had a few blood tests ordered by my GP ... My local health care team has just signed me up to the NHS Preventing Type 2 Diabetes service. Jolly nice of them. I had a high HbA1c in November 2022. I couldn’t get any response from the local team at that time, so followed advice from these forums and my own medical knowledge to address the problem. Since then, I have lost nearly 6 stone, taken up regular gym and swimming sessions averaging over an hour and per day, including both cardio and muscle building, made permanent changes to my... High BG suddenly

I’m wondering if anyone can give me an insight as to why my BG has been high today and climbing. I’m pre diabetic and following a low carb diet, my daily BG tests sit between 5.3-6.1. I get a 7 on the odd days but never higher, for the last two months. Today I started FBG 6.6, pre lunch 8.2 and now pre dinner 17.2! I average 30g carbs a day plus 2 jelly babies [emoji51]today. Could they have caused this? As today hasn’t been out of the ordinary other than that ..read more

Caffeine in myself: seems to boost BG but no HbA1C influence

Hey All, I've concluded my experiment of 3 months of caffeine deprivation. Indeed very often I saw that the morning spike of BG gets to normal levels noticeably faster without my coffee, in other words, the average BG is somewhat lower comparing to the period when I started my day with a cup of coffee. But my yesterday's HbA1C result didn't prove this at all. My HbA1C is glued down to 5.2-5.4 % for a year now, and these are the digits I received yesterday. Other consideration about this... Hi, I’ve decided to reintroduce some carbs to my diet. I was prediabetic but low carb, around 18 to 20 grams a day, got me back into normal figures. Today we were out for lunch and my choice of food was a three bean curry, tho I opted not to eat the red kidney beans, and it was served with tortilla crisp. I ate a good handful or more of those. Before eating my finger prick test was actually a little high for me at 6 mmol (I’m normally around 5ish), then two hours after it read 4.6 mmol... Read more ..read more

Hey there, Grateful to have found this forum! I just need some advice: I’m in my early 30’s and had neuropathy symptoms start in 2017. I first thought it was carpal tunnel. It was stable for a number of years but started to spread in my feet with tingling and it’s now continued to get worse. I have polyneuropathy so it affects a lot of my nerves now including my feet and hands. My left food started to go a bit numb aswell as my right hand with on and off pins and needles. I’ve had... Chinese takeaway blow-out -NOT good !

Been over to the in-laws this evening to have a Chinese takeaway for Mother’s Day, father in-laws and my birthday. I have been on a keto diet since end of November last year when I found out I was pre-diabetic and have lost 2 stone and got my BMI to 22.5. Decided to have a bit of a blow-out and had ribs in BBQ sauce with chips (first potato I have eaten since going keto). I forgot to take my BG meter with me but as a rule my BG is normally anything between 5.2 and 5.8 before my evening... Read more ..read more
