Newbie question: I've had a finger prick monitor for three days now and am curious about something. My fasting blood glucose first thing in the morning has been 5.3, 5.6 and 5.7 mmol/L. However during the day it has dropped to lows of 4.6, 5.1 and 5.0 mmol/L on each of the three days, which is up to 0.7 mmol below the fasting. (The measured highs were 8.2, 8.2 and 7.2 respectively.) I'm curious to know how common it is for blood glucose to drop below the morning fasting level reading... Read more ..read more

Hi, Perhaps someone can help. I have altered my diet and consumer very little in the way of carbs and no refined sugar. I have lost a lot of weight and am very thin. When I consume certain foods, such as apples, I get a tingling sensation in my toes and pain in my extremeties -this could be the ends of fingers or toes. The pain also occurs at other times for no particular reason. It's not excruciating. The tingling is mild. I also appear to get numbness in my right arm. I have eaten three... Read more ..read more

In response to an article in The Times on undiagnosed diabetes Professor Tim Spector tweeted this "One million adults live with undiagnosed type 2 diabetes and about 5 million with pre diabetes and the U.K. has NO public health policy to deal with it and says our food advice is fine", When added to those that have had a diagnosis of T2D or pre diabetes then almost 10% of the UK population are affected. Food for thought by Public Heath England and other governmental agencies ..read more

Triglycerides:HDL - Insulin Resistance
Diabetes Forum » Prediabetes

My understanding is that the ratio between triglycerides and HDL is a good proxy/surrogate for insulin resistance. My ratio is 1 (both are 1.4), which suggests I have good sensitivity to insulin. My fasting glucose morning prick tests are normally in the range 6 to 6.4, perhaps a little on the high side. My blood pressure is 110/65. My waist to height ratio is <2. I know from a DEXA scan that my body fat % is 17.8. I have a ALMI (Appendicular Lean Mass Index) in the 90th per centile when... Read more ..read more
