My mom turns 80 this year and I'd like to take her on an ~3 to 4 day trip. I have previously taken her to Tetons/Yellowstone, and Zion/Bryce and she enjoyed both trips very much.
I am trying to decide between Glacier and Banff/Lake Louise. I have seen Glacier myself and loved it. People say Banff/Lake Louise area is beautiful. She can't hike but she can walk quite well on flat even ground.
Glacier is an easier trip from a logistical standpoint.
Which would you choose ..read more

Really great article...I just eat this stuff up! Several years ago, I hiked this road to a point maybe a half mile beyond the Lower Crane Creek bridge. It was still easily crossable, IIRC (I remember it looking much like it does in the picture way above in wherever's original post). I don't recall it being all THAT many years ago but if the bridge burned in 2009, then I must have been down there before that (my advancing age tends to make things from many years ago seem pretty recent, I guess! :) )
Anyway, thanks for posting this. I know there are other old road junkies on this site who will ..read more

Well yes, Chris was the author of the post & the one with the question, so I was addressing him.
If I planned on speaking directly to NQTG, I would have addressed him directly.
When I answered Chris's question, I had no intention of engaging with you (coolburn) at all until you started in with "bluffing" and laughable "experienced hiker only" comments posted here, which you were welcome to PM me about if you were concerned I was spreading incorrect info.
Since you've repeatedly proved yourself inept at interpreting other's posts, I propose you stop trying.
Instead, why not focus on prov ..read more

CNEWT,
So your disagreement with NQTG about crossing the 120 was really a reponse to ChrisA?
It doesn't read that way.
In any event, if you do need to respond to me, perhaps you can use the PM feature ..read more

There is nothing incorrect or misleading about my response to Chris's question about his specific route.
True - he did ask "what are the rules about this?" but followed up directly with the potential problem of "start(ing) at one trailhead you don't really like and then walk directly to the trailhead you like and do the hike"
As he framed the issue, I concluded he was asking if could you start with a May Lake trail permit and they walk directly to Sunrise trailhead to begin his hike. The answer to that is no. And a ranger would tell you that crossing 120 from a May Lake starting trailhead an ..read more
