Suspension upgrades

At 200,000 miles, my 2012 Grand Touring (automatic) handles like a boat now. Shocks work, but are leaking and noticeably softer than a few years ago. I’m thinking about replacing the rear shocks, front struts, and any bushings or links that are worn badly. I might consider H&R or Eibach sport springs if I can match them with decent dampeners. Has anyone upgraded the shocks or springs with aftermarket parts? Or will I be pretty happy with OEM equivalent shocks and new bushings? I miss the sporty Mazda handling this car had when new. submitted by /u/Nonconformists [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

2012-2017 Brutal Tire Wear

I have a 2017 Mazda5 with very low milage (68,000 km). Milage is split between a set of winter and summer tires/rims. Recently got the winters off and both sets of tires are getting into the yellow and probably only have a season or two left, which seems pretty bad to me (they are wearing pretty evenly at least). Mind you the tires are almost 8 years old but the milage is pretty low on each set - is this just a consequence of the 5 being a bit heavier than the 3 with similar tires or are there any ways to reduce this? Thanks. submitted by /u/MTINC [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Seating arrangement with 2 car seats + older teens?

Recent Mazda5 owner here. I've had my eye on this car for a while, and just bought an '09 with 104k miles last week. One of the main features we like is that it can fit 6 people. However, in practice it seems that with the 2 car seats in the middle row, our largest of two teens (6'0 250) complains that he has no way of getting to the third row. Would it make more sense to put the car seats in the back row? Or just one of the car seats in the back row? Just trying to see what most people do here. I'd like to not have to keep switching the car seats on a semi-daily basis. submitted by /u/BajaB ..read more

Just bought a 2007 Mazda5!

Hi, I just bought a 2007 Mazda5 with 165k miles on it. The previous owner kept up with oil changes and tire rotations, but did the minimal possible to keep it running the last 4-5 years. They don't remember if they had any big services done at the 120k mark. The car seems to drive fine, with the exception that when it goes over potholes or speed bumps, there are often clunking and/or creaking noises and it feels a little rough. I plan on driving this vehicle minimally. Wondering, if I should proactively take it into a shop to do some service on it -- or just wait. It had an oil change 2 weeks ..read more

Paddle Shifters

Hi y’all I bought my 2013 Mazda5 recently after my trusty Outback’s head gaskets blew. I’m enjoying it so far but I had a question about paddle shifters. My subaru had these behind the steering wheel, and I have read about Mazda having these. I have even found the plugs on the right and left hand sides of the steering column where it seems that the paddle shifters would be attached. Is this something I could plug and play with? I have not found much information on adding paddle shifters to the mazda5. This is not a must or anything I just think it would be fun to have the option. Thanks! sub ..read more

Mazda5 chemical smell

Hello I have a Mazda cx-5 had it for a year and I have smelt a chemical smell. I took it to the dealer but they said they don’t smell anything or see anything but when I get into the car and it’s not even started I smell the chemical smell and the longer I ride in it the worse it gets and the worse I feel. The feeling I get when I get in the car is a headache, my throat feels like it’s closing, and I feel off. I was wondering if anyone else has experienced this or if anyone has any advice? I’m kind of at my wits end. submitted by /u/deeneko [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

First had an 07 GT 5 speed manual from 2009-2012 before trading it in for a brand new Mazda 3 Second was an 09 GS 5 speed manual from 2020 to 2022 before I swapped with my ex’s Ford Explorer because I was keeping the camper. Now that I don’t need to tow a camper anymore, I bought this 12 GT Luxury Package 6 speed manual. Love this car. submitted by /u/Dkazzed [visit reddit] [comments ..read more
