We plan to visit Ngorongoro Crater in June for the first time. We normally prefer to do our own thing at our own pace so would prefer to self drive. Is this recommended for the crater? What important information can those of you who have done it please share to make our trip easier? Thanks in advance ..read more

An East African journey to the Garden of God
21 January to 16 February 2024
Safari means journey in Swahili. This is an account of a 3,285 mile (5,286 km) journey from Nairobi, Kenya to the Southern Highlands of Tanzania and back. It is not about driving around looking at animals although we did, of course, see some wildlife. We also didn’t camp as much as usual. As we say, every day, “every day is different”.

Afternoon all
We are doing a self-drive trip from South Africa to Tanzania, this July:
Planning on going straight to Serengeti to track down the migration, hopefully before it heads into Kenya.
May I ask for suggestions on a 7-night itinerary in Serengeti.
Camp names, and number of nights.
I know this is probably covered in previous threads, but this is way quicker. Any suggestions gratefully accepted, many thanks ..read more

We want to visit Ngorongoro Crater during mid-June this year. The plan is to camp at Simba camp. We will arrive late afternoon and then camp for 2 nights. I have a few questions:
Is June a good time to visit?
From the research I’ve done, it looks like we will be paying for 2 days entrance in the park. Would that be correct?
Where do I make reservations for Simba camp?
Thanks in advance for the help ..read more

Does anyone have experience of the road via Singida to Ngorongoro? According to T4A it is 520km and it will take and take about 10 hours to drive. I'm planning to do it in June and will be driving a Land Cruiser.
