After a four-year absence, we finally returned to Curacao on Feb 3-10. Covid threw a wrench in our plans on previous visits. I have been looking forward to returning to the island for years. On our way!: Airfares from St. Louis were consistently on the steeper end of what we normally pay. After stalking airfares for a while, we knew that they were not were not going to decrease. We booked on Delta. 6 am departure from St. Louis, layover in ATL, arriving in Curacao at 2:40 was a nice... Read more ..read more

Staying at Marazul up in Westpunt. Last night there was a lot of wind and some rain. Around midnight the seas were pounding the seawall so forcefully that it kept me awake. Skies have cleared with no wind but sea is still crazy ..read more

Hello all, I am looking at booking a 2 week trip to the Mangrove Beach Resort. Has anyone any comments on the diving from the resort, either house reef or from boat? Also looking for any information on snorkeling from the resort as my wife is a non-diver. I have stayed and dove from the Sunscape resort, but I hear it has really gone down hill in the last couple of years. Thanks ..read more

Which ops do daily boat diving these days?

Planning a trip to Curacao in the spring - first for us. We will likely stay in a rental that has a local dive op for shore diving, but runs no boat. While we plan to do some shore diving, I am very fond of boat dives, especially 2 tanks or even more to break up the schlepping of gear a little bit. I know it is blasphemy to some here, but even in our many trips to Bonaire we also do at least 10 boat dives for the same reason. Now, with Curacao I am really struggling to confirm which... Private Dive Guide?

Hi all, You’ve sold us on going to Curacao. My husband (non diver) and I will be there at the end of April. I’m considering Ocean Encounters. I’ve emailed for information but, after calling some other shops, it seems hard to hire a private guide. Is it typical to be able to hire a dive guide that’s private? The first dive of the trip will be my 5th dive and I want someone knowledgeable to go through my buddy check and be an engaged/alert buddy underwater. I’m worried about holding up a... 10 days of (mostly) shore diving on Curacao the last week of December 2023 and first week of January 2024

Part 1: Overall impressions: Lots of great dive sites, but there was also a lot of coral bleaching, and what was apparently some stony coral tissue loss disease (SCTLD). We were advised to disinfect our gear when we got home so we don’t wind up bringing SCTLD with us on our next dive trip. Even the sites that reportedly had the least amount of bleaching (per locals) still had a shocking amount. We read that between August and December of 2023, the water temps were the highest they have ever... Read more ..read more

Dive op convenient to St Willibrordus?

Booked January 20-28 in Curaçao on a whim; now I need to find a dive op. - Mr T doesn’t dive any more, so I won’t be diving every day and will need guided dives, preferably with an op that attracts other reasonably experienced, reliable potential instabuddies - Boat dives preferred or else valet service that removes the need to carry my own tanks and weights any distance or up and down stairs. My knees suck. - Decent rental gear (tanks, weights, BCD, regulator, fins) - Bonus if the dive... Read more ..read more

Curacao Vacation Tips

Hi All, Based on advice here, it looks like Curacao is our next vacation. The dive packages at Lions Dive looks appealing. We've never been to Curacao before--should we be looking at Airbnb etc. or other resorts? I've started looking but, before deep-diving into options, I thought I would ask here. What other dive shops do you recommend, and why specifically? I've Googled most of them. My husband is a non-diver and we will have a car. On tropical vacations he likes tho hang out on the...
