Hello all. I started a new Facebook group for Turkey Hunters for southwest Washington and northwestern Oregon. Now I know the Turkey populations on this side of the Cascades are far and few between, but they are out there. Also, a lot of us hunt on the other side of the gorge just a few hours away. The group is catered to the new hunter as well as the seasoned old vets. Come share your knowledge, ask your questions and lets all have a great hunt together. Gobble! Gobble! Just starting out

I’ve been doing archery for a few years now (and building bows for almost a year now). I am now wanting to get into bow hunting. I’m specifically looking at rabbit hunting because it seems like a slightly easier place to start (i.e skinning and prepping the animal). I'm located in Hillsboro Oregon and I have a long shot question. The Tillamook State Forest is massive, and I'm a bit lost on where to begin. Any local tips or insights on good starting spots close to Hillsboro/Vernonia would be awesome... I honestly don’t even know where to begin If you have any other pointers such as beginner hu ..read more

Do any of you fine people know of any hunting mentorship programs for adults here in Oregon? Or even paid classes that you can take? Always wanted to learn how, and I don't know anyone willing to take out/teach a newbie. I've shot rifles and hand guns throughout my lifetime so ive the basics of that down (not saying I'm an expert). If anyone could point me in the right direction I would be very grateful. submitted by /u/Horus4 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Cold or rain?

Hey all, I'm a new hunter. This is my first year chasing black tail. I was planning to head out to the coast range tomorrow but saw that it's gonna get into the 20's overnight. Driving there might be a bit of a challenge if roads are wet, but I'm more curious about deer movement in that cold of weather. I planned to go one day tomorrow and then 2 days next weekend (family stuff limits the amount of time I have to get out). Would I be better off waiting for next weekend with the rain? Don't wanna go out tomorrow if the bucks are just bedded down with how cold it gets. Any tips are much appreci ..read more

Hey guys, Been hunting my whole life, but new to oregon. Would like to try my hand at my first deer hunt. I’d be hunting western oregon(since tags are easy to get) and I need a place to go. I’d be hunting public land, but I still have NO idea where to even start. There’s not that much info online about spots and I don’t know enough people here to ask. Anything helps. Thanks y’all! submitted by /u/Livid-Cup8770 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Noobie question about rabbit hunting

I'm just starting to learn about hunting and I'd like to start with small game. I've been doing a lot of research in terms of gear and other misc. stuff, but what seems to be a challenge is determining where to actually hunt. Are there any easily accessible places for a new hunter just learning the basics to potentially hunt rabbit? My preference would be somewhere not too far from the Portland area (2-3 hours out at the most). submitted by /u/OldHuntersNeverDie [visit reddit] [comments ..read more
