Pigeon Point Beach AND Buccoo Reef Snorkeling – On Our Own – DIY Trip Report

Tobago:   You can book beach-break excursions to Pigeon Point Beach, and you can book snorkeling excursions to Buccoo Reef, but we managed to do both without booking an excursion in advance.   Buccoo Reef is near Pigeon Point. There are glass-bottom boat operators at Pigeon Point Beach who will take you to Buccoo Reef. (If you book an official snorkeling excursion from the ship they take you to a pier to catch the snorkel boat, east of Pigeon Point.)  When we got off the ship we went through the cruise terminal and found the board that lists taxi prices. The board says “Pigeon ..read more

Maracas Beach On Our Own – Trip Report and DIY Details

Our cruise on Jewel of the Seas stopped in Trinidad on February 20, 2024. The cruise line was offering a beach break excursion to Maracas Beach for $79 per person. This was for transportation only and did not include chairs, umbrellas, food, drink, or restroom access. As you will see, this is way overpriced, and you have to go on their schedule instead of your own. I know people say you should take the cruise excursions so the ship won’t leave you behind, but we had 5 people and $400 for a ride to the beach was a huge premium to pay for this guarantee. Given the price of the official cruise e ..read more

Tobago - Store Bay

We decided to bypass Pigeon Point and try Store Bay Beach instead. We were a little apprehensive about just grabbing a random cab there but we're glad we did (we've never regretted doing this on any island yet). We simply stepped outside the port building and asked for a cab among those begging for our business. At least one person tried to convince us that we really wanted Pigeon Point.   The fellow that took care of us signaled for the actual driver to come in and pick us up. We knew in advance that we wanted drivers with plates beginning with "H", and that's what we got. I doubt that a ..read more

From what I have just read, not a good start for one of the first ships that stopped in Tobago.    https://trinidadexpress.com/news/local/maxis-a-no-show-tobago-tours-cancelled/article_901196ba-81be-11ee-872f-c306a59dc782.html   Maxis a no-show: Tobago tours cancelled THE start of Tobago’s 2023/2024 cruise ship season hit a snag on Saturday. There was a lot of dancing at the Scarborough Port but in the midst of the dancing, pan music and moko jumbies, there was disappointment as pre-booked tours for 300 tourists were cancelled due to the non-arrival of maxi-taxis. Still undecided whether or not we will be getting off the ship in Tobago but if we do, we were looking at this excursion thru RCL? The description is rather vague. I would assume travel to and from the beach would be included. Anyone experience this? Thanks  ..read more

Tobago Celebrity Excusion- Small Group Windward Coast & Coral Garden with snorkelling

Warning to all. Do not book any Celebrity excursion that travels along the Windward Coast. And definitely don't do a boat tour. Not safe!   We booked a 4 & 1/2 hour excursion.  Included a drive along Windward coast,  glass bottom boat tour and drift snorkelling.  Nothing in the description about timing,  so thinking I will never take another excursion with no timelines.    When we got on the bus the driver told us the drive was about an hour and 10 minutes to the boat. We all looked at each other, none of us knew the drive was that long. Personally I woul ..read more

We returned from our Royal Caribbean cruise Trinidad and Tobago last Saturday.  I was concerned about the stopping in these ports.  It turns out that I enjoyed them.  We stopped at Port of Spain, Trinidad on the 3rd day of our cruise.  We were the only ship in port that day.  The ship docked right at the port.  There are only a few local souvenir shops at the port.  I had booked a shore excursion through the cruise ship, because I was concerned about safety in going on our own.  I booked the trip to the Caroni Swamp Bird Sancturary.  We were led fro ..read more
