Visitors4 in Grand Cayman - Sea and Sun on West Bay Public Beach

Hoping to have day of sea and sun in Grand Cayman, and reading about hurricanes’ impact on 7 Mile Beach and erosion, we decided to head to West Bay Public Beach. This beach is further north from the port and appear to have been spared much of the erosion that the southern part of 7 Mile Beach has suffered.    We took the public bus (USD$2.50 pp and very short easy walk from the port) and in less than half hour we were at West Bay Public Beach. It has food, drinks, restrooms and lounge chairs and umbrellas for rental. We paid USD$20 for two loungers and one umbrella. We settled in a s ..read more

Public Beach Experience

I am interested in folks recent experience going to Public Beach.   This will be our first time to SMB.  Normally, I would prefer a beach club.  But with most of them closed now, I am intrigued by Public Beach.  Folks on here seem to like it.   What was the quality of the beach/sand?  I have heard there is a lot of erosion at the other end of SMB. What was your experience renting chairs/umbrellas?  Did they set them up for you?  Where they in good shape? How are the restrooms? How much is a taxi between Public Beach and the tender docks?   With ..read more

Grand Cayman in September transportation question

My husband and I just booked a cruise for September 2023 with a port day Sept 12 from 7am-4pm.  We really just want to go to Hell and send some postcards and take some pics, etc and then head to the public beach at 7 mile beach.  How easy is the bus system to use?  It looks like it is only $2.50 per person to go to Hell where a taxi one way is more like $45.  I would assume you need exact change for the bus.   Any suggestions/information would be greatly appreciated.   ..read more

Viator offers an excursion that takes you to Seven Mile Beach Resort. (This is not the Seven Mile Beach Resort and Club) Has anyone been there or heard about it? There's a website but no phone number. They say the excursion includes the ability to rent chairs and umbrellas.    My other alternative is to go to the Public Beach and rent chair/umbrellas there.   One other choice I found was through Resort for a Day, which sells a day pass to the Holiday Inn Resort on the north shore. The price is $70, including a $35 credit for food and drink. That beach is rocky and they say they ..read more

Taxi cost- per person or per ride?

We are a family of 4, and would like to go to the Turtle Farm in Grand Cayman.  Their website says taxis are $10-20 per person one-way; which makes booking with the cruiseline seem a bit more palatable.  But most posts I am reading here and on other boards say the taxis are $10-20 per trip, which is much less.    Does anyone have current information on whether taxis in Grand Cayman charge per person?   ..read more
