While we understand that hair growth starts at the scalp, most have no clue of what supports hair growth outside of "hair growth products" and "hair growth supplements". This blog post will explain the stages of hair growth and some of the best ways we can maintain the health of our scalp to ensure that our hair is performing optimally at each stage. (via healthline) The anagen phase may last about 5 years on average so that is how long a single strand will grow. About 90% of the hair on our scalp will be in this phase at any given moment. The catagen phase takes about 10 days a ..read more

If your locs tend to get brittle, have trouble retaining moisture or they are color treated, you’ll benefit greatly from conditioning them regularly. Here are my tips for using conditioner at home while avoiding product build up in your locs: 1. Thoroughly wash your locs first with a clarifying shampoo. Conditioner washes out easier when you shampoo your locs a few rounds first. 2. Add conditioner to fully saturated, dripping wet locs. Don’t wring out the water prior to application so assist in distributing the product all over. 3. Use a milky conditioner or dilute your conditioner so it ca ..read more

While wearing your locs out and free is beneficial for young locs because covering them too often and too tightly can hinder the locking process, it will do your hair a great service to cover them while you are out and about from time to time. We all know that covering your hair to sleep is beneficial because it keeps your hair smooth so styling your hair in the morning is easier and it keeps your delicate hair protected from your cotton sheets. (If you have satin pillowcases however, you can get away with wearing your hair out while sleeping more often.) But how is it beneficial to cover your ..read more

There is a lot of confusion online regarding what constitutes as rose water and what color it should be. The confusion comes from terms being used interchangeably. Let us define terms and create distinctions. What is rose water? Rose water is the hydrosol of roses. Hydrosols are also known as floral waters, herbal distillates, hydrolates, herbal waters, and essential waters. When water-based products are made from the distillation of fresh flowers, leaves, fruits, and other plant materials, they are considered hydrosols. They are the pure botanical extracts. What is distillation? To ..read more

Should You Brush Your Locs

Brushing your locs is no new trend. It's a practice that's gone on for ages. There are a few different reasons why people choose to brush their locs and here we will discuss 2 common reasons. 1) Some brush their locs for the prevention of lint accumulation. While brushing your locs won't remove lint that is already imbedded into your locs, it will remove new lint that is on the surface. It's best to brush your locs after lint exposure like after wearing a wooly sweater or laying on an old blanket. It's also highly recommended to brush your locs before washing your hair so that any new lin ..read more

Tips for Moisturizing Locs

Moisturizing locs is a simple concept yet often people do it all wrong. People tend to focus on oils primarily when oils are truly secondary. Our priority should be water and using water based products. Washing your hair regularly is important because it's the only time our hair tends to get fully saturated (besides while swimming however ocean and pool water may dry our hair out). After our hair is shampooed, we should follow up with a conditioner that can be easily rinsed out or follow up with an oil like The Horsetail Leaf Growth Oil. Below is a video of my demonstration of the following no ..read more
