Hi folks I am looking for some help, I have used freenas as a server for a number of years, my memory of setting it up is hazy. I had a problem with connection tried to solve part of which I updated 11.3 U5. Spent some hours with resetting and following what instructions I could fimd, whilst I can see the contents of my storage disk (WD1Tb) I have been unable to save - delete files I can only copy. Any help would be much appreciated. Kind regards I have a PDF of the entries but this is not alllowed for the forum mail. 1 post - 1 participant Read full topic ..read more

Newly replaced disk in 2 disk Mirror appears to have been Striped

Hi Community, I’m hoping there is a solution to this problem that doesn’t involve a rebuild. I have FreeNas 11.3 with 2 disks in mirror layout. One disk degraded and i detached/exported it then added a new replacement disk via Storage/Pools/Options Cog/Extend. When in Extend screen, adding the disk to vdev it only offered “stripe” as the layout and now i can see in Storage screen that the available storage has increased by the size of the new disk. This is the concern as i expected resilvering process to include the new disk into a mirror layout and the available storage to show the new disk h ..read more

Replicated datasets change on reboot

Hi, Long-time Unix and FreeBSD user. A few years using FreeNAS. I’m running version TrueNAS-12.0-U8.1 on a SuperMicro server. I hoped to use FreeNAS to replicate three other UNIX systems I run. I didn’t use the GUI, as it seemed dedicated to FreeNAS->FreeNAS replication, and only one of these servers is a FreeNAS installation. The problem I have found in my tests is that the datasets seem to be changed on a reboot, which causes incremental replications to fail or require -F, which I am loath to use. I have found this to be quite repeatable: freenas# zfs create zroot/BACKUP source# zfs send ..read more

Harddisk unknown

One of my harddisks is no longer recognized somehow. I’ve been having problems with it from the start. In February I added 2 new HDs, bringing the total to 6. Since I only had 5 SATA power connectors on my power supply, I used a splitter, with no success. Recently I brought the server to a computer repair shop. They investigated the problem: the power supply was only 500W, which is not sufficient for 6 disks. They replaced it, so now it supports 750W and I no longer need a splitter. Still, one of the new disks is not doing anything. FreeNAS doesn’t even recognize it as a harddisk. What should ..read more

Hello. I am hoping someone may be able to help me, I have a HP Proliant N36L which went pop yesterday, I am running Freenas 11.1-U4 which runs ok but now the two 1tb drives (Raid 0 zfs) are not recognised, I presume the motherboard has failed, I can however plug the drives into the USB ports using adapters on the front panel and they will show up in the web interface as drives, but what do I do from there to get my data back ?, I don’t want to mess about and lose everything, I would appreciate any help please. Also is it viable to copy config from boot usb stick to a fresh install of freenas o ..read more
