My current setup is TrueNAS Scale 22.12.3.3 Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-7500 CPU @ 3.40GHz Gigabyte GA-B250M-DS3H Micro ATX LGA1151 Motherboard Crucial CT8G4DFS824A 8 GB (1 x 8 GB) DDR4-2400 CL17 Memory And for storage, I have 2 8tb Iron Wolf Pro and 2 6tb Iron Wolf Pro drives in a raidz. I know this isn't the best-case scenario but just the drives I had as I am migrate from old synology NAS's. I installed Jellyfin from the applications page and from true NAS, not true charts. TrueNAS core special/metadata vdev underutilized?

I've just rejiged my NAS by creating 11 vdevs of two disk HDD mirrors, a three-wide SSD mirror special vdev with 2x HDD spares and 1x SSD spare. I've set both datasets I have to 32KiB for the metadata block size. However, after reloading all the data to the corresponding datasets, I have the following, truncated for brevity: Code: truenas[~]# zpool list -v NAME SIZE ALLOC FREE CKPOINT EXPANDSZ FRAG CAP DEDUP HEALTH ALTROOT TEH... ZFS NVMe performances questions

Hi, I'm currently trying to get the best performances I can on FreeBSD with NVMe drives, in order to know how many servers my workflow is going to require (reading a lot of 60MB dpx files per seconds). For testing purpose, I'm using 4x 1Tb Samsung 990 Pro on a system equipped with a threadripper 3970x and 128GB of DDR4 3200. All tests are done using iozone, with various block size set according to the recordsize set on the zfs volume, and with 5 files of 60GB each, in order to fill the arc... What kind of R/W perf can I hope for with 4x NVMe drives over SFP28 using TrueNAS..?

I was considering using a Dell T630 for an all NVMe array of ... ...4x U.2 4TB (PM983) drives I already have (initially) and picking up another ~4x U.2 NVMe drives to make it an 8x NVMe array. Is RAIDz1 acceptable with a relatively small NVMe array..? (given that the limit with spinning drives is the time to rebuild which is substantially shortened with NVMe) I'm assuming could schedule backups via RSync the differential changes (as TN is journaled) to a spinning array that's RAIDz2 ... Dissimilar data VDEVs in a pool

I've read TrueNAS documentation, looked on various forums, etc but still a bit confused. I've 4 x 600GB SAS 10k rpm HDDs, And 4 x 900GB SAS 10k rpm HDDs. I'll set them up as two RAID-Z1 vdevs. I can put them in the same pool? If so, what are the advantages/disadvantages? Would I be better off creating two separate pools? What do I need to think about when adding more vdevs to a pool? Also, I have three Intel 120GB DC S3500 SSDs. How can I best use them? Machine has Supermicro... Raidz1 hotspare question/enlightenment

Hey folks! i'm reaching out because i've heard 2 different statements to the same question. This pertains to zfs not being like hardware raid (or any other raid for that matter). i'm building a truenas core 13.x nas (latest stable) and I had an idea: i have 5 x4TB spinners in one of those 5 bay raid cages that pops in the 3x5.25 drive bays. i thought i could also add a single 4TB SSD as a hot spare because if it's just sitting there waiting to go into service when a spinner dies... raidz1 hotspare question/enlightenment ..read more
