Hi I'm running out of room on my NAS so need to install Bigger Hard Drives the Compatibility List | Synology Inc. pages only lists up to 16TB for Seagate Enterprise Where as scan.co.uk are selling Seagate Exos X24 24TB these are on the same product manual as the 16TB currently in use Two part question 1. Is there a reason why Synology only list third party drives up to 16TB 2. Will these larger drives work in my DS1821+ I'm aware the volume limit is 108TB for DSM 7.xx... Read more ..read more

Im having issues with the TV giving a "Check Network Connection" error after streaming a movie. The movie sometimes plays for 5 minutes, sometimes for 45 minutes but them craps out. The movei is about 5-6 Gb in size. Its not a file format issue as the movie plays and when it stops, its not in the... Read more ..read more

Extending ONT power adapter cable

So I’m having a bit of a moment here I have an ONT installed in the most suitable place but the power wire to the adapter is too short. I can splice and extend the wire, the usual twin thin type, but having trouble choosing the right cable I guess any twin cable that is rated 12v or above, 1.5amp or above and 18w or above. Even speaker wire would do for such a low power device. I used to pop down my local Maplins but of course they are online only now and the order is too low Quite a few... Read more ..read more

Best case/ enclosure for 12+ bay NAS

Hi guys, I want to build a home NAS with at least 12 HDDs (18 or 20Tb). It seems the cheapest way will be to buy a Fractal Design Define 7 XL and then buy my own cheap components. Has anyone does this or have any recommendations for other cases/ enclosures? Because it’s a pretty huge case. Would’ve preferred a small NAS enclosure but they’re too expensive at 12 bays and synology also puts up warnings if you use your own drives which is really off-putting. I currently use a hosting... IPv6 connectivity issue with one PC

I have an odd problem with one device on my network. Here’s a summary: The router (a Zyxel NR5103Ev2 with a 5G sim in) is set to have all IPv6 functions disabled as far as I can tell. This is because it seems my ISP isn’t great at IPv6, it’s unreliable and over complicated for me. All the Windows PCs on the network also have IPv6 disabled in network settings, and their connection is stable. However, my wife’s work computer has started dropping its network connection. It’s a managed... Read more ..read more

Hi All I currently have a NAS with plenty of disc space available so do not want or need to compress files. Have approx 50 DVD / Blu Ray films. We would normally play these discs via a PS3 but it is now in an enclosed cupboard so is a ball ache to open to load discs etc. Also the PS3 controller is a bit cumbersome these days. I am contemplating ripping the discs via AnyDVD HD, which I believe can rip to an ISO file. Play back would then be via our AppleTV 4K and I was contemplating using... Read more ..read more

Accessing @EADIR

I noticed each folder on my NAS, through NFS has a @EADIR subdirectory and what appears to have identical files under them. How can I browse these directories (synology file browser can't see them) and see what's going on? I won't delete them until I do a full music backup. I don't have media indexing, video, music, or audio photo station enabled in the NAS. I have accessed main music directory from LMS of course plus a Kodi media box and scanning / indexing through NFS share. So I'm not... Read more ..read more

Hi, I've got a Unifi Cloud Gateway Ultra on the way to replace my Sky router. I was wondering if anybody has set one up with Sky yet and if it's a simple process? I've seen on the Sky forums that it is simple using a Dream Router so I presume it would be the same process eg set option 61 and mac address clone ..read more
