I made a trip to a state park on the sound in western CT last week.
It was about 2 hours before sunset, tide was outgoing, about 2 hours past high.
Caught one striper from shore, about 22 inches.
Had a few other hits ..read more

So after being in CT since December, I’m pretty quickly learning that access is limited and a lot of what you end up fishing is crowded with both beach-goers and other anglers.
I live right off of the Connecticut River, about ten miles from the mouth, so this would be used for things like tidal estuaries, the CT river itself, and then probably a mile or so from shore for things like scup and seabass.

The 2024 regs are out and there are some weird changes. Fluke starts out as 19” then changes to 19.5” later in season. Seabass is 16” but has a two week closure at the end of June/beginning of July. Can they come up with anything more confusing?
Porgy also bumped up to 11”.  ..read more

Grew up and fished a good portion of my childhood and then adult life working in Groton and living in Lisbon fishing this once tremendous river. I've been gone for over 10 years living in the south and a family event has me traveling up in early April and was wondering if it was worth my time to bring a rod and get a temp license? I have plenty to do when I'm there but can certainly find a few hours if needed, I miss my striper fishing.
I know there's many probably bet ..read more

I can tear down an engine, fix a computer but when it comes to my fishing reels, I kinda suck at it. Conventional I can handle. My spinning reels, all Shimano Stradics could use a good cleaning but since my younger days whenever I took down spinning reels I ended up with extra parts. I used one place here in southwest CT, but the guy greased my anti reverse clutch. Luckily I can do that job. Cleaned it up, reassembled. Good as new. It's the reels innards that vex me.
Who do you use to service your reels? I'm willing to travel for quality work. Seems there's nobody around that does this kind of ..read more
