The site is currently owned by Youth and Family Outreach (YFO), who will lease it for 90 years to 337 Cumberland Avenue, LP, who will be the development owner. Looks like there's a new proposal for a 6-story building at 185 Commercial Street, on an existing parking / patio area between Wharf and Commercial. Proposal is calling for retail on floors 1 and 2 and five residential units on 3-6. Seems like they're making the most of a tight lot. I'm sure the condos will command a premium. The design incorporates traditional Commercial Street materials of brick and granite with a good deal of glass and some modern elements on the recessed upper... Read more ..read more

84,000 dwelling units needed statewide. Multiple communities across southern Maine turning down proposed developments that would help alleviate the housing crisis (800 units in Kittery DOA last year, 321 units in Saco DOA recently, the 107 unit Cumberland senior housing project killed when the Planning Board punted and sent the project to the Select Board). Yet here we have a central York County community with *millions* of square feet of developable, walkable square footage via adaptive... Read more ..read more

More opportunities for tourists' wallets to hemorrhage in Freeport are on the way. This plan comes complete with plenty of "free" parking (Freeport taxpayers will actually pay the bill), which ought to do wonders for the June-through-January traffic jam on Main Street. Tallest building in town, can you name the city?

With winter still hanging on for a few more weeks I thought it was time to break up the doom and gloom and start a new game. Fairly simple concept, post a photo of a US city's tallest building and we all get to guess the actual city it's located in. Naming the building is not necessary and let's make sure the structure is in the downtown area and not some remote college dorm, beach condo or casino tower in the middle of nowhere or church spires and capitol domes. Clues are helpful but if... Read more ..read more
