Switching treble to single hook on small kastmaster

I really don't like hooking trout with a treble hook unless I'm planning to bonk them (which I rarely do). But I like to use a small Kastmaster from time to time for bass or panfish. Anyone have an advice on switching out the treble for a single on trout/panfish size (~1/8 oz) Kastmasters? I've switched hooks on a Vibrax before, but never on a little lure. No idea what hook to use or what size. And yes, I know Kastmaster makes a single hook version. But they only seem to do so... Read more ..read more

I have a capable boat but sometimes I like to just sit on my rear , enjoy the scenery and plunck. My favorite spot is just below Bonniville Dam near Tanner Creek . Summer and fall nooks are my favorite. I have done pretty well at times. The usual set up , spreader with tear drop sinker and spin and glow with coon shrimp and various scents. Stout 11 foot rod with Penn 360 GTI level wind. I can get it out about 40 yards or so. Sometimes when I reel back to shore I discover that for the last... Read more ..read more

Well, not all, but a couple things at least. My Dad likes to beach fish for surf perch around Westport and I'd like to get a spinning setup to join him. I would love it if this setup was versatile enough to use for more than that, though, if it's feasible. Specifically, I would like to be able to fish for steelhead and/or salmon here around the Tri-Cities. Not sure where, but probably Ringold, the Snake if I can find places, and tribs like the Walla Walla. I have zero knowledge... Read more ..read more

Bait casting setup for smallmouth on Snake?

I have started fishing a lot on the reservoirs behind the four Snake River dams when I cannot make it to my favorite trout or steelhead waters. I have a boat and bring along both fly and spinning gear, but want to get a bait casting setup. Looking for some advice on recommended baitcasting rods and reels. Retirement is in sight, so willing to spend some funds on something that will last as my money won't once I do retire! Mainly fishing with crankbaits and spinnerbaits right now, but... Favorite Saltwater Salmon Hooks

What kind of hooks do you guys like to run? I have become very partial to Owner hooks. For whatever reason I seem to loose less fish with Owner hooks than Gamakatsu‘s, even though Gamakatsu hooks generally serve me well. I like to run smaller hooks than most guys in the salt because nothing makes me more upset than releasing fish bleeding from the gills or missing an eye. I like a 3/0 hook when targeting Kings. When mooching Kings I’ll use 4/0 hooks for the Herring and then 3/0 trailers, but... Read more ..read more

I’m giving my friend a late Christmas gift a fishing rod, an 8’6 Celilo. I’m getting her started off with a small tackle box, 2 dick nites, 2 1/4oz jig heads with some pink mini squids, two 1/2oz hoochie jigs, and two rotators. The idea being that she should be able to hit any beach or river during a coho or pink run and have an honest shot at catching fish. That said I don’t want to overwhelm her with choices and give her every single piece of gear that exists when it takes time to learn... Read more ..read more

After seeing several posts mentioning CP in a Spey thread, I thought I’d start a pincentric thread. It can be a place for cool photos or tips or methods. Here’s a photo of my daughter and her dog Sunny. She landed her first salmon on a pin in early November ..read more
