Every year, I get a little older, and usually, I celebrate with friends. This year, I'm going to celebrate it with all of you! My birthday is January 21. Every person who rides MY AGE IN YEARS in MILES on that day will get a prize. To be fair, I will provide the prize to anyone who rides +/- 1 mile of my actual age on that day. I will not tell you my actual year of birth, but I will tell you I was born on a Saturday. RULES: Ride your bike outdoors some number of miles on January 21, 2024. I am interested in organizing an all purple Freezing Saddles DZHOY RIDE, ideally a no drop social ride that incorporates both the actual 30 mile Dzhoy Ride Route on Ride w GPS: https://ridewithgps.com/routes/43745940 AND The memorial mural. If you are a FS who is already familiar with this loop and would like to help me plan a DZHOY ride that uses this route and also stops and the mural, please let me know! And if someone is already planning this, please let me know how/if I can help! Attached Images   ..read more

2024 Pointless Prize: Street #Treats
Washington Area Bike Forum
by Boomer2U

This game is simply about finding random but perfectly good #treats that people drop or discard and you find while riding your bike. Some common street #treats are money, usually coins, and orphan gloves or hats. I’ve found $20 bills, sunglasses, a six-pack of unopened beers and a brand new pair of Speedplay Zero cleat covers. I even found a pair of Barr Mitts once, too. How to play: 1. Find a street treat out in the wild while riding your bike. 2. Hashtag your ride title #treats on Strava 3. Post a picture of the street treat with some part of your bike in it to this thread and/or Strava. 4 ..read more

Reintroducing Calvinball to Freezing Saddles. (Search the forum for a complete history of this game.) There will be multiple Calvinballs thrown out into the wild for folks to find and hide. Please remember this is a "hot potato" game, not a "make this really hard to find" game. The ball (shape may be a water bottle or similar--I will post pic of each Calvinball that's deployed so you know what you're looking for) needs to be placed in "public" areas. Do not put the ball on or adjacent to military or government installations (i.e., on the grounds at the Pentagon or outside the gate at Ft Myer ..read more

Freezing Saddles is here at last!

For those who registered for a team: Tomorrow is time to start riding. Yes, we know you haven't been assigned to teams yet. However, once you are, all your miles back to January 1 will count. Freezing Saddles puts a premium on riding every day, because the first few miles on a day count more than later ones. It's 10 points for riding at least a mile, plus another 10 points for the first mile, 9 for the second, etc., until it is 1 point for mile 10 and above. So for example, if you ride just one mile each day, you would have 180 points by the end of the happy hour. If you wait and try ..read more
