We're reminiscing the 50's over in another forum, thoughts of Belle Isle came to mind. The multi colored lights in the Fountain, the concerts...the Zoo and Aquarium. Canoeing the canals, snipe and ghost hunting on Tanglewood drive at night. The "Casino" where the older folks spent the day playing canasta, chess, checkers, bridge. The kitchen there at the casino served "Belle Isle" burgers from a big gravy filled pan, a shot of mustard and a thin slice of onion on a roll for .15 cents if I... 60 year old burger recipe from the old Belle Isle Casino ..read more

Was a pretty decent weekend. Yesterday we started out at daylight with a steady breeze. We found a new submerged structure to fish that we've never tried before. Right out in front of the ramp. Loaded with fish. Right off the go we started in on them. Crappie and bluegill both were active. We took a few of them. It slowed so we decided to go for another spot. By then the wind kicked up and it was over. Put the boat back on the trailer by around 9 and called it a day. Went back this morning... Last weekrnd ..read more

Black squirrels are a separate species and are not a color phase of the gray squirrel. Once a black male squirrel moves into an area that has only gray and fox squirrels, it immediately neuters the gray and black male squirrels by biting their genitals. They do not fight to kill the gray and fox males. The gray and fox females are pursued and bred by the black squirrels. In a decade or so you will only see black squirrels in that area. My uncle who around 70 at the time told me about this... Black squirrels ..read more

Hello all, This is my first post on this site so hopefully it's in the right spot. Looking to take my boy out this Sunday and target some crappie and or big gills. I've never targeted crappie before but believe I have got my tackle all set up and ready to start this year. The lakes within an hour drive are, Raccoon, waveland, rockville, glenn flint, and green valley. With raccoons water being really low, which lake would you recommend to get on some panfish? Thanks in advance ..read more

:fish: I am new to fishing, and don't have a boat. I have been going to the Huntington Dam Spillway (J. Edward Roush Lake) because it is close; I live in SW Fort Wayne. I caught several catfish and drum there; some days are a bust. I have also caught a lot of crappie near the Salamonie marina. I have been taking my teens 2-3 times a week for cheap entertainment. I am willing to drive up to 45 min for fishing. I have a few questions for the area experts: 1) What nearby fishing sites do... Newbie in FW, where to fish ..read more
