Madhu Kishwar had invited me to her channel to talk about the above topic, after I had tweeted that 2 tribes in Namibia filed some years ago a class action suit against Germany for atrocities during its colonial rule there from 1885 -1918. Germany got summons from the court for pre-trial negotiations. After several rounds, Germany apologised and agreed to pay compensation. This article is based on material which I collected for the talk. It’s a bit lengthy, as it has three parts and includes screenshots and links. It is meant as input for further research on what can be done to get tangible ju ..read more

Hinduism is misunderstood all over the world. Because Hindus don’t articulate its essence well.

In recent weeks, two big American influencers, Russel Brand and Candace Owen, declared that they got baptized. Others, who are Christians like Tucker Carlson, keep stressing the importance of Christianity for a healthy society. Jordan Peterson explained why atheism is irrational. And of course, he is right. There MUST be a power greater than humans behind this miraculous, vast universe. Even though I criticize Christianity, I consider it for normal Westerners (not clerics) much preferable to believe in Jesus and his Godfather than to be rootless atheists or communists, as long as these Christi ..read more

Ayurveda, Baba Ramdev and Germany

I wrote this article in 1990 for a German magazine. It was very well received, and the chikitsalaya in Coimbatore received lots of requests from Germans for study and treatment. Moreover, a German Hospital owner was inspired to start an Ayurveda department in one of his clinics in Kassel. I got the idea to translate the article into English, after seeing, how Ayurveda and Baba Ramdev are criticized at present on social media. Baba Ramdev has benefitted so many people. What he has achieved so far in encouraging healthy living is admirable. He should be praised, not hounded. Please keep in mind ..read more

The alleged gang rape of a Spanish woman biker in India. And how fiercely media attacked Hindu India.

In the first week of March, it seemed to be a free-for-all in attacking India in general and Hinduism in particular. What had happened? Here is what I gleaned from news sources. In an isolated area in the state Jharkhand, 300 km from its capital Ranchi, a 28-year-old Spanish/Brasilian woman and her 64-year-old Spanish husband had pitched their tent. They had travelled all over the world for some years and had come from Bangladesh on 2 motorbikes. At 11 pm on Friday night, 1. March, a police patrol saw 2 foreigners by the side of the road. Due to the language barrier, the police couldn’t unders ..read more

Certain forces want to prevent humans from knowing their divine inner Essence (Atma).

How do I come to the conclusion that certain forces want to prevent humans from knowing their divine Essence and connecting with it? By observing what happened over time and especially in the last 2 decades. When Vedic knowledge reached the West over 250 years ago, it was praised as the greatest gift to humanity. Philosophers praised it, but also scientists, like Erwin Schroedinger, Max Planck and several others. Schroedinger often ended his lectures with “Atma is Brahman” and Max Planck said: “I regard consciousness as fundamental and matter as derivative from consciousness. Even still in 198 ..read more

Vedic wisdom needs to be lived

There are many born Hindus who know much more about Vedic wisdom than I do, but sometimes it is easier for an outsider to see the most important aspects of an incredibly rich, an incredibly vast tradition, like the Indian tradition. I was fortunate that soon after coming to Bharat, at the Kumbh Mela in Haridwar in 1980, and in the surroundings of Sri Anandamayi Ma and other great spiritual personalities, I became familiar with this most important aspect: You are not what you think you are Sri Anandamayi Ma claimed: your senses deceive you. You are not a small person in a big world, but in trut ..read more

Why are many Hindus condemning only their own and ignore those who committed far greater offences?

While clearing my mail inbox, I found the following mail from 2016, written by one Subbiah and my reply to him:   Dear Ms Wirth: While celebrating the glory of Hinduism, please have a heart for the millions of Dalits in India whom for millennia the Hindu society has condemned to a status below that of animals. I am sure you have read what Dr Ambedkar has said about the deleterious consequences of India ever becoming a Hindu Raj. Sri Ram’s help is needed against today’s Ravanas

Something big is happening in Bharat after 500 long years. Common sense says that it should have happened much earlier. Latest in 1947, when India was partitioned on religious lines and Indians who had converted to Islam got Pakistan. At that time, it would have been natural for Hindus to get back their temples which had been destroyed by invaders and mosques built on them as symbols of dominance and supremacy. But maybe, now is just the right time for Bharat and the world to get back the Mandir at the birthplace of Sri Ram. The reason is that Ram is an epitome of Dharma, who fought and vanqui ..read more

A question by a Muslim about Hindu Dharma

I was clearing my inbox from old mails. One mail was from 2016, written by someone with a Muslim name.   He wrote: Seriously mam, did you think that, Hindu faiths and beliefs are correct, did you find anything good in a religion like Hinduism..?   My reply: Parvez ji,   Yes, for me Hindu ‘belief’ is closest to truth. It details the absolute Truth: all is one Brahman (other names are possible, like Paramatman, Satchitananda, etc.) Vedas claim (individual) Atman (consciousness) is one with Brahman (universal consciousness)   Maybe you could see my article   https://maria ..read more

Maria’s Wirth book is an ode to India and its wisdom. Stumbling into India on an accidental layover 1980, she got drawn into a seeker’s journey, searching for truth and encountering the many remarkable men and women, gurus and teachers, who would act as guides for her decades in India. From Sai Baba to Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, from Anandamayi Ma to Amma, she records her close personal encounters and experiences. The journey will take us to secluded and unknown yogis in the Himalayas to the famous celebrity gurus, to colourful festivals and ascetic caves. But her real journey is the inner voyage t ..read more
