Of course none of this would be any surprise to anyone with a functional brain, but government reports gotta government report.
Government told spending money on snow-making at ski field 'not viable' due to climate change
For generations, Tasmanians have made the steep drive to Ben Lomond to enjoy the ski fields. But as seasons change and the snow disappears, those days may be numbered — with a report recommending government help to make snow "does not proceed".

Hi guys,
Has the community moved or something? Normally there are pics from people by now, but there hasn't been anything for weeks?
Also, I've read about the intentions of the new operator, but can someone tell me if anything will actually change this season ..read more

Just wondering if anyone can make sense of how to get on Ben Lomond when there is snow around. Though i'd check the Ben Lomond Committee page, seems that only 1 service goes up there. We've ski'd a lot of places but never been to Tassie or Ben Lomond hard to get a handle on what to expect, varying info depending on what you read. Seems like your frowned upon for driving up, lots of forceful language regarding people who don't use the bus, I can see the road up is gazetted and not on any...

Hi Everyone.
We are excited to announce that we have made a significant investment in Snow making for the 2023 snow season!
Ben Lomond Alpine Resort have purchased 4 brand new fully automatic TechnoAlpin TR10 snow guns, which are the largest on the market, in preparation for the colder temperatures to arrive in late May / Early June. The machines will cover the Summit and Bass slopes from top to bottom.
The team has spent the last 3 months building the water reticulation and...

I fondly remember skiing at Mt Field as a kid in the 80s but don't recall an opening QBD weekend ever looking quite this good. Must be well over 50cm judging by the scrub coverage. It will be interesting to see if the mountain can hold on to this base until the next dump ..read more

The final design for the Mt Wellington Cableway in Hobart was revealed today. It replaces the previous plans hybrid system of an aerial tram and a gondola and with a 2.7 km aerial tramway with a vertical gain of 920 metres and featuring a span of 2040 metres between support towers. Passengers will be transported in two 80 person, 7 x 4 metre cabins which will travel at a speedy 10 metres a second. The top station will be recessed into the mountain with a more discreet profile than the...

Afternoon all those fortunate to live in the southland.
Planning a combination trip back to the island in mid-August with kayaking / backcountry snowshoeing & boarding / property buying being of main priority.
Anyway, I know the vagaries of the alpine Tasmanian weather & snowpack, but you have been enjoying some good rainfall across much of the state in recent months & I'm just chasing some regularish updates from those out & about in the hills.
Is there any snowpack starting to develop...
