Lo Fives & Fun Times @ Rontoms Sundays
PDX Presents
by J. Pinky
3d ago
Few bands bring a good time to the stage like Lo Fives, who lit it up at Rontoms on Sunday 11/26/23. Their signature post-punk style is both modern and timeless, a blend of electric quirk and manic irony. It’s Talking Heads meets The Ramones with a dash of Jimmy Eat World at a Gang of Four concert; stripped down and distorted, sarcastic and aloof. It’s the inner thoughts of a young American trying to make sense of a world gone mad while doing their best not to take things too seriously. Check out the song Best I Can off their 2023 EP “6 Songs” for a taste of some of that, and don’t miss ..read more

TV Viking came out swinging with their debut show at Swan Dive, Nov. 18, 2023. From the first power chord forward, it was clear that every member of the band had both the talent and experience to light up a rock ‘n roll stage, and they delivered to the final note. Here’s the full line-up: Glenn Henrickson – Lead Vox+Noise Cathleen Arnerich Brown- Bass Synth Nora Murphy Hughes – Drums+Backing Vox Travis Goldberg-guitar Marty Smith- Guitar Locals down with the scene will remember Marty, Cathleen, and Glenn from the pre-pandemic era band The Slutty Hearts, and drummer Nora is a legend, not only ..read more

Fluid Druid Gets Psychedelic at Swan Dive
PDX Presents
by J. Pinky
1w ago
Fluid Druid played a stellar show at Swan Dive in Portland 11-18-23 on a wet and rowdy Saturday night. The band has been on a tear this year, with new music releases in May and September, and the buzz is building. Give them a follow at @fluiddruidpdx and keep a close eye out for upcoming shows. They’re worth the price of admission. Learn more about Fluid Druid at https://linktr.ee/fluiddruidpdx The post Fluid Druid Gets Psychedelic at Swan Dive appeared first on PDX Presents ..read more

The Slants Play Their Farewell Show at Dante’s
PDX Presents
by J. Pinky
1M ago
It’s time to pay some respect to one of the most influential bands from the Portland music community in the past decade. The Slants fought and won a Supreme Court case over the use of their own name and released a slew of full-length albums, some killer merch, and an autobiographical book, while playing live shows internationally since 2006. In a word, they are legendary in the truest sense of the word. And sadly, Saturday night, October 14, 2023, was by all accounts their final show together. This performance took place at Dante’s and was one of the finest combinations of lights, sound, mus ..read more

Mauve’s Final Show at Honey Latte Cafe
PDX Presents
by J. Pinky
1M ago
With the sad news that Honey Latte Cafe will no longer be able to host live music on account of having a crappy landlord, I thought I’d release this unpublished Mauve show from 7/7/23, featuring Kyle Craft (of Growing Pains fame) on drums for the very first time. Rumor has it they have a historic show coming up in December. Who’s going? Black Shelton Plays Swan Dive @ Lose Yr Mind Fest 2023
PDX Presents
by J. Pinky
1M ago
With every Black Shelton show I see, the more I am convinced that we’re witnessing the rise of a local legend. There simply is no comparison with any other artist that captures the essence of modern culture the way he does. Racial fury, serious musicianship, metal-meets-soul fusion, lof-fi samples, a frickin’ theramine, and a heart of gold. It’s not just the message but the messenger that makes for such a powerful impact. It’s passion and love and anger and art, all in one dynamic package. A new album is on the way. He plays tomorrow night at a secret all-ages house show you can learn more a ..read more

Ezza Rose Gets Down at Lose Yr Mind Fest
PDX Presents
by J. Pinky

Ezza Rose was a stellar addition to the Lose Yr Mind Fest line-up at The Get Down 9-8-23. One part singer-songwriter, one part rock & roll, the band brings insight and intensity to the stage in impactful ways. This was Ezza’s first show back after taking some time off to give birth to her first child, with hopefully much more music and many more performances on the way. Give ’em a follow, check out their most recent single, Petrichor, and don’t miss the phenomenal full album, No Means No, on your favorite streaming platform. (Spotify links below.) Learn ..read more

Salo Panto Jump-Starts Lose Yr Mind
PDX Presents
by J. Pinky
2M ago
Salo Panto fired the opening shots at this year’s Lose Yr Mind Fest at The Get Down 9/8/23. Their latest album, Parallel Naratives, is one of very few I’ve repeatedly listened to front-to-back since its release in April of this year. Their soothing psychedelic vibes are reminiscent of early Pink Floyd and Sgt. Pepper’s-era Beatles with a modern twist, and Portland’s venerable producer, Cameron Spies, was a perfect complement to the project. Check out the playlist below and get groovy with some of Portland’s finest. Learn more about Salo Panto ..read more
