After a brief hiatus, PDX Presents is back on the scene with coverage of a fiery show at Lollipop Shoppe last Friday, 11/15/24. Only Only, an aptly-described ‘dance punk/post funk’ outfit got the crowd hot with a combo of bangers from their debut EP, S/T, released earlier this year (and available on BandCamp). Kicking off Sabertooth 2024 at Crystal Ballroom Friday, June 1st, heavy psych-rockers Rarefaction got the show off to a very hot start with one of the best performances of the night. Fans of Black Sabbath, Alice in Chains, or the thriving local psych scene in general will all find something to appreciate about this group, and proving that they can dominate stages of any size in Portland, they’ll be playing next at No Fun Bar 6/28 and Dante’s 7/19.  Don’t miss the chance to see them this summer. Simple Shapes at Lollipop Shoppe
PDX Presents
by J. Pinky

I admit it, I’m a sucker for indie-psych, and every once in a while I stumble across a band I can’t believe I haven’t already seen. Simple Shapes were just such a discovery at Lollipop Shoppe on Thursday, 5/16/24. They describe themselves as “kinda moody, kinda groovy,” which hits the mark, and others have called them “emo-adjacent.” Whatever the adjectives for their sound might be, they had a joyous presence on stage, and even the lizard visuals seemed to appreciate the performance. They’ll be playing next on June 18th at Eastbank Esplanade on the Willamette River, a non-traditional ye ..read more

The UpKeeps have been on a rampage in Portland since the start of the year, with shows at Coffin Club, Twilight, Dante’s, Kelly’s Olympian, and a Friends of Noise showcase in N. Portland this past Saturday. It’s little wonder they’re in such high demand; they put on some of the most exciting live shows in the scene. They’re kicking it up one more notch today with the release of Down N’ Out, a brand-new single that extends their legacy as the city’s purest rock n’ roll band. With hints of David Bowie and the Romones, combined with vintage guitars and modern passion, The UpKeeps strike at the ..read more

Back to The Drop! This set of pics, featuring local favorites, Buddy Wynkoop, were captured at The Get Down on Sept. 9th, 2023 during Lose Yr Mind Fest. The band is set to release their first single from the debut LP, Zugzwang, on April 16th and are starring at SHUTTER: A celebration of local punk, hard rock, and live music photography on Friday, April 5th. One of the purest examples of art-punk in town, they blend quirk and complex rhythms with dueling guitars and a sophisticated take on otherwise mundane aspects of life, accentuated with spasmatic stage performances that are simply magneti ..read more
