I know the obvious answer on TS will be that it's all a cash grab but seriously, it seems like an easy way to differentiate yourself as a top club from the rest if uniforms and cleats are included in the club fee. (even if that club fee sneakily creeps upward in the process). I recently saw an "unboxing" video on IG of an Oregon State player's "swag bag" and it seems like easy free marketing for the club if the players are showing off their free custom boots in club colors (maybe even with their numbers on them) and tagging the club. I find it interesting that many (most?) clubs don't run any GK specific drills to evaluate them as a part of tryouts. Some just makes kids play scrimmages... and there have been cases where one GK gets really tested and the other one hardly gets a touch on the ball. Why do clubs run such tryouts? Are we marginalizing the role a GK plays ..read more

Heard a rumor (also confirmed by one of the Surf coaches) that the Saints 2010B state cup winning team is moving over to Surf along with their coach. Did anyone else hear this? However the coach is still listed on the Saints website. Will be interesting to see what happens with all the new kids who tried out at Saints because they were state cup winners ..read more

Oregon School Activities Association (OSAA) is the nonprofit, quasi-governmental entity that manages, supervises, and regulates interscholastic athletics in the state of Oregon, among other things. All public and private high schools who field interscholastic sports teams are members. While some may argue about how well it does its job, it's pretty much accepted that it has the final world on setting the rules, priorities, and procedures for high school (and middle school) sports in this state.
