Fishing in Galveston has been up and down lately. The winter months can be tough at times due to the weather conditions, Over the past couple of weeks we have had some really cold and windy fronts come thru. The fronts have also produced some rain and that has our bays off color and fresh. On the few days that we have been able to get out, my customers have been able to have some great results. Spring can be a frustrating time to fish. The weather mainly the wind can really determine if you are going to catch fish or not. So far this spring has really been one of the windiest in recent memory. We traditionally have some windy days in March-May, but we have had some days and even weeks of 20-30 mph wind. Now that being said, on the good wind days we have been really catching some nice healthy fish. Lots of keeper speckled trout, red fish a few black drum and flounder are abundant... Hello! Moved recently to TX and would like to figure out the jetties/pier fishing deal here...I’m not after sharks, I don’t care about it at all, also I like more lure fishing but will use bait as well. I have a TICA UGSA 9’ M and another one 10’ MH. I have them on Penn Spinfishers 6500SS and Spinfisher V 6500 models with 30lb braid (or 20lb, and 30lb.... I forgot..). Will these be too long for pier/jetty fishing at Aransas or SPI? I was looking at the Daiwa BG reels or a Penn Spinfisher VI... Pier/jetty combo ..read more

Hi Everyone! Capt. Alan here down in Galveston TX. Giving a fishing report for the Galveston Bay complex. Fishing is really hit or miss right now. Our weather in Jan & Feb is the main reason we have inconsistency staying on fish. Speckled trout is our most targeted species & they are very fickle to weather & water conditions.
