Trailer Jack upgrade
Fishing Minnesota Forums

Last month I went searching online for a trailer jack with pneumatic tires. Instead I found the video below showing a relatively quick and easy upgrade to your existing jack: It's worked pretty well. I definitely had to mess around with finding the right combination of spacers, washers, and locknut pressure that wouldn't bind up the wheels. However, it is a pretty sweet setup and allows me much better control. We live at the end of a half-alley. My garage faces the end so when I need to hook my boat up to the truck, I have to pull it out into my driveway and then swivel it 180 degrees to face ..read more

Went in to Lucky 7 to get some crappie minnows today. All they had were crappie minnows and fatheads. She said to call in advance for the opener, couldn't say for sure if they'd have rainbows, shiners, etc for opener ..read more

West End Is Suddenly Hot!

This was posted in the Timberjay this week, and should be in the upcoming LVA publication. Great news for those of us on the west end. https://www.timberjay.com/stories/west-end-is-suddenly-hot,21403 LAKE VERMILION— How things have changed on Lake Vermilion’s west end. Not that many years ago, resort owners on the lake’s western half were bemoaning low numbers of walleye, particularly fish smaller than the protective slot limit. Those complaints aren’t likely to be heard this year, at least based on the results of the DNR’s fall fish survey, the results of which were released last week, averag ..read more

Ice-Out 2024
Fishing Minnesota Forums

I hate to start this thread early, but this ice doesn't have much of a chance this season. It's about half as thick as it should be, there is no snow cover to protect it from the March sun, and it continues to be abnormally warm. Let's hear those ice-out predictions. I expect the smaller bays to be open by the last weekend of March with the main lake soon after, likely prior to April 1st. Earliest ice-out on record is March 28th, 2012. On the plus side, the spawn be done long before fishing opener. Combine the reduced walleye harvest with the longer growing season, and this should translate in ..read more

didnt know where to put this, so this thread seems most visited. anyone else get emails from the DNR??? Rick usually posts these but i couldnt find it. anyway i got an email that said there are around 114 Minnesota lakes that they are looking for input from fisherpeople to update management plans. its on the DNR website. one lake of interest to me was up in Itasca cty so i emailed the guy in grand rapids, gave him my opinion on the lake in question. his reply was they had no real agenda to change anything with that lake but simply looking for input from people who fish it ..read more

Snow-out

Well the lake is taking it's lumps with this weather. I see ATV/SxS tracks but all of the tracks have frozen slush in them. There is just enough snow for sleds to go around, but mine was running hot last night as I searched for any loose snow. It's getting harder and harder to find. Riding in the woods is questionable. There's enough snow generally, but you are going to be scraping rocks and tree roots. We need the Ghostbusters to cross the streams, reverse the flow, total protonic reversal....to get some cold and snow up here again. It feels like late March up here ..read more
