#2024QuiltingQ1CheckIn

As I recently said in my newsletter, my perception of time is really strange this year. I know I welcomed February and now we are already through March but on the other hand, I could swear it is still the end of January.  However, I am happy that the days are getting longer and the sun is coming out more often. Can anyone relate? I have been struggling with some health issues and when I was “working” I was busy behind the scenes. So let’s look at a summary of the last quarter. Halloween Plaid-ish — Finished!

No. 6 of my Finish Along List for Q1 is finished! Let’s finish of January a touch late. I finished the Halloween Plaid-ish quilt, when I found out that three days later, I would have a quilt holder – my Mom – and awesome snow weather – which is rare here. That was on January 6, the photo shooting was on Januar 9. So totally logical that I only now manage to write up this blog post, right? We decided to go into the Boberger Dünen, a nature reserve of sand dunes in the middle of the city. It is a lovely area for a walk but in hindsight it was not the best location for quilt pictures because be ..read more

Progress Q4 and Proposed List of Finishes Q1 2024

I posted my first Finish Along list in April 2015 when it was still a “big thing” and hosted on blogland. But even though it switched to @finishalong on Instagram and appears to have died out, I never looked back. I still post my WIP list here on the blog and sometimes on IG. For me it is a very necessary and thus awesome tool – to keep track, to stay motivated… to hopefully, finally reduce the – for me overwhelming – number of WIPs… Finishes What I accomplished last quarter I finished three quilts. One was a set that I counted as one WIP on my list. So two checkmarks ;) I also managed to sew ..read more

With hosting the mystery quilt along in the blog advent calendar, I somehow “missed” writing up the November report. So now I have two months to recap. And even though it is the end of the quarter where I was considering skipping the post, this one needs to be done for sure. We all want to know the final tally of my fabric tracking, right? Blog Posts With two months and some push to finish projects, there were also a few blog posts: Dinosaur Pillow Bright Side I+II Collection of Small Finishes Charade — Finished! These were also hosted by Yvonne and I loved them a lot because they reminded me to review my goals which kept me a lot better on track and gave me the ability to reset my aim where necessary. 2023 Review The Sewing Goals for 2023 Get the unwilling WIP list down to 3-6 projects Tackle all the WIPs with a starting date before 2021. No. 9 of my Finish Along List for Q4 is finished! Here comes the last catch-up post for this year ;) I started this Charade quilt with the sew-along in February. It is my most documented quilt this year – maybe ever. It is also the most liked project on my IG feed. But more on that in my Best of 2023 post. But that will have to wait till tomorrow. I leave to a friend for some raclette and a board games night as a birthday and New Year celebration soon ;) But before, I managed to rearrange the living room to take the final pictures of this last finish of 2023. Front Back I think the backing fa ..read more

Collection of Small Finishes

I am playing catch-up on a few projects and blog posts to finish the year and this is the first. A collection of a few smaller finishes :) Coasters No. 1 First a set of coasters I made for my swap partner in the advent calendar swap. These were a special filling for the Advent Sundays. My partner had two wishes on her list. The first was small coasters in grey, black, white or creme with a modern pattern. I also figured out that she likes combinations with Essex linen and thus did them in two sets with either a lighter or darker grey Essex Linen background. The scraps used for the patchwo ..read more

No. 7 of my Finish Along List for Q4 is finished! This is a cooperative project with Emanuela @ Quiltkarussel who did the longarm quilting. She also supplied the batting which is a Mathilda’s Own Poly/Cotton (80% cotton, 20% polyester). Bright Side 1 | Front Bright Side 1 | Back I started the two quilts to reduce some stash and do some simple sewing just for relaxation. I used my stash of solids. The pattern calls for 20 different prints per quilt but I dimply remember that sometimes I used two very similar fabrics instead of one because I was trying to work with what I had on hand. Dinosaur Pillow

Let me just jump in here real quick and show you my new in-between finish: A dinosaur pillow for my nephew. I saw this fun print when I was ordering my fabrics for my QuiltCon visit in February. And I showed it to my nephew on my next visit in March asking him what he would like to have made out of it. The most reasonable suggestion – he was still five at the time – was a pillow. I did not have it finished for my next visit when we celebrated him starting school. And I also think because of all the gifts on that day, it might have just been “lost” anyway. So when I learned, he would visit me ..read more
