Bei den Girls geht es ab 1. Januar rund! Nutze dies ..read more

Patchwork fabrics – this is how you organize leftovers aka scraps

I love the creative preparation, choosing patchwork fabrics, collecting initial design ideas for a quilt, drawing, planning, calculating – but only when there is order around me and I have an overview of everything. I consider something like creative chaos to be a myth. But like everyone who loves to sew, I’ve accumulated a fair amount of leftover fabric over time. More and more boxes were filled with crumpled scraps of fabric, so that fabrics that I once carefully selected for quilts, table runners and cushions became more of a burden than a reason to be happy. Sewing with real patchwork fabrics: 9 reasons that speak for it

For us, patchwork fabrics are the most important material for our creative work. Anyone who has been infected by the patchwork virus is usually infected for the rest of their lives – the indulgence in shapes and colours, the creative design and the manual work that leads to a beautiful quilt is too beautiful. Fabric samples in many beautiful designs and colors and a seemingly endless number of patchwork blocks and sewing techniques open up 1001 possibilities. Do you feel the same? If you haven’t quite finished a project yet, your head is already rumbling and we mentally get into the next creat ..read more

The German Quilt Guild and to become a certified teacher

Since January 1st, 2020 I am a member of the Patchwork Gilde Deutschland e. V., so just under a year and four months, a relatively short time when you know how long others have been members there (the guild was founded on November 2nd, 1985). When I discovered patchwork and quilting years ago, I was immediately hooked and plunged headfirst into this world. I couldn’t watch enough videos about certain techniques, couldn’t read enough blog posts about beautiful tutorials, couldn’t look at enough inspirational pictures on the internet. But what I missed was contact with like-minded people. Certai ..read more

Patchwork and quilts – the most important info

What is the difference between patchwork and quilting? In patchwork, small pieces of fabric are sewn together to form a larger textile. These pieces of fabric can be of different materials and sewn in different shapes and sizes. Thus, the term patchwork refers to a technique rather than a finished work or an object such as a blanket. To make a quilt, you first create what’s called a quilt sandwich of quilt top (usually a patchwork), batting, and backing fabric (often from a single large sheet of fabric) and stitch through it all (the quilting) so it will hold together later. So the quilt is th ..read more

Precise sewing in patchwork according to the system of Shelley Scott-Tobisch

Do you admire perfect seam intersections in quilts and want to improve your skills? Then be sure to read on! Precise sewing in patchwork – what it’s all about Shelley Scott-Tobisch is an American quilter who has developed her own modular system for accurate sewing in patchwork to help us achieve more accurate sewing results. She explains this system in her book “ Easy Precision Piecing “, from which I would like to present various (not all) steps here. At this point I ask for your understanding that I cannot reveal any details, because that would not be fair to Shelley. But I have the book in ..read more

The trend is toward online shopping More and more people are shopping online instead of driving to local stores. This is illustrated by the sales figures in e-commerce, which have been rising exponentially since the 1990s. There are also expert forecasts up to 2025 that show that more and more people will continue to shop online in the future and want to do so. To give you an overview: There are now around 120,000 online stores in Germany, and more are being added all the time. 5 reasons why you will love Aurifil yarns

When you sew, you put two things together, namely fabric and yarn. It’s clear that high-quality patchwork fabrics are important to me, but what about yarn? Anyone who has ever sewn cheap no-name thread knows why I don’t use these. Patchwork is undoubtedly a passion that requires no small investment, but you really shouldn’t skimp on yarn. There are far more than one or two reasons for this…. Did you know? A sewing thread is a single spun thread, a sewing thread consists of threads twisted together.
